Fantasy Football Week 7: Mark Ingram and Other RBs Who Will Enjoy Career Days

Zachary D. RymerOct 19, 2011

Fantasy owners who own Adrian Peterson, Darren McFadden, Ray Rice or any of the other elite running backs know what they're going to get on a weekly basis.

Some owners are not so lucky. For a variety of reasons, there are owners out there who are forced to fill out their running back spot(s) with whoever they can find and then hope for the best.

Odds are, these owners are starting one or more of the four guys listed below. If you are, you're in luck. It just so happens that these four guys are in for a pretty awesome weekend.

Delone Carter, Indianapolis Colts

We still don't know what the deal with Joseph Addai is quite yet. We know he has a bad hamstring, but not whether he will play on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

If Addai doesn't go, you can expect rookie running back Delone Carter to get plenty of work. With Addai out in Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals, Carter led the Colts in carries with 14.

The only problem is that Carter didn't do much with those carries—or with any of the other carries the Colts have sent his way, for that matter.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this will all change against the Saints. Their rush defense has holes, and those holes have been exploited by the likes of DeAngelo Williams and Earnest Graham. Not exactly Jim Brown and Walter Payton, them.

So maybe it's Carter's turn. Goodness knows he's due.

Jackie Battle, Kansas City Chiefs

It's going to be hard for Jackie Battle to top his performance from Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts, in which he rushed for 119 yards on 19 carries.

Nevertheless, I think Battle will top his performance from Week 5 when he and the Chiefs take on the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

Credit where credit's due, the Raiders have been very good against the run in the last two weeks. However, you have to take this for what it's worth given the way the Raiders traditionally struggle against the run, and that is to say that it's not worth all that much. Battle is just as likely to go over 100 yards as he is to get stuffed on a consistent basis.

The other thing you can expect Battle to do is get into the end zone on Sunday. Let's call it a hunch. We could also call it the inevitable result of the Chiefs playing on a lot of short fields thanks to some Carson Palmer-induced offensive struggles.

DeMarco Murray, Dallas Cowboys

All we know right now is that Felix Jones is hurt and that he won't play on Sunday against the St. Louis Rams. With him out, DeMarco Murray and Tashard Choice could very well split carries.

A report from ESPNDallas.com makes me think otherwise. While Dallas could go with a running-back-by-committee approach, it "appears" that Murray will start.

As well he should. Murray carried the rock 10 times against the New England Patriots in Week 6, and he did look better than Choice. He deserves to get an increased workload.

If he gets it, he is going to do good things with it. The Rams have been very generous to opposing runners this year, and you can expect the Cowboys to exploit that weakness.

Mark Ingram, New Orleans Saints

You can count me among the many fantasy owners who are thanking their lucky stars that Ingram has at least been able to find the end zone this season, because he's not doing much from a yardage standpoint. Making matters worse, Ingram has gotten only nine carries in each of the last two weeks.

This could and should change against the Colts on Sunday. The Colts are soft in the middle, and that plays into Ingram's ability to run it between the tackles.

If Ingram can gain yards consistently (something he hasn't yet done this year), the carries will keep coming. By the end of the day, his very first 100-yard game could be a reality.

Expect another touchdown as well. Maybe two.
