NFL Picks Week 7: Baltimore Ravens and More Road Locks

Michael DixonOct 20, 2011

Home field advantage can help overcome a lot in the world of the NFL. It's certainly possible for a team that's slightly worse than its opponent to prevail against a superior team because they are playing at home.

As a general rule in the NFL, the best teams are going to win on Sunday, or Monday. A great home field advantage can neutralize a lot. However, if one team is just much better than the other one, they will win every time.

Listed below are teams that will leave the home fans disappointed.

Baltimore Ravens

I have thought about this game a lot in the last few days. I've thought of some ways that the Jaguars can keep this game reasonably close.

What I haven't been able to do is come up with a way that the Jaguars will win, or even get within 10 points of the Ravens.

Baltimore did hiccup against the Titans, but have otherwise looked very impressive this season. Ironically, Jacksonville's only win came against the Titans.

I like Blaine Gabbert a lot, but in no way will I pick a team with less talent with a rookie quarterback to beat the Ravens. I don't care where they're playing.

Green Bay Packers

The Packers' defense isn't quite as vaunted as the Ravens, but it's excellent. In addition to that, they will score points at a rather alarming rate against a vulnerable Minnesota defense.

Christian Ponder may move the ball better against the Packers than Gabbert will against the Ravens, but it won't be nearly enough.

The Packers will win this game easily.

Washington Redskins

Well, another team going against a rookie quarterback. Are you noticing a theme?

The Redskins' defense is starting to emerge into one of the better units in the game, although they are still relatively unheralded.

John Beck will start at quarterback for a Redskins' offense that leaves a lot be desired, but their running attack will have a fine day against the Panthers.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Kevin Kolb is not a rookie quarterback, but he's actually not much more experienced. The Cardinals have been a massive disappointment, and are much closer to the No. 1 pick in the draft than they are to the playoffs.

I am still not sure that the Steelers are for real this year, but they won't have any problem moving to a 5-2 record.

The Cardinals' franchise has yet to win anything significant with anyone other than Kurt Warner as the quarterback. We'll have to wait until 2012, or later, for that to happen.
