College Football Rankings: 5 Best Top-25 Matchups of Week 8
We are more than halfway through the college football season, and the Top 25 rankings are still changing each week, with a few exceptions.
As we get ready to watch our favorite football teams this upcoming weekend, either on the big screen or in person, there are a few games we won't want to miss.
What are the top matchups between BCS-ranked teams this weekend?
No. 15 West Virginia vs. Syracuse
1 of 5Friday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN
It’s not a big rivalry like WVU and Pittsburgh, but with Syracuse leaving the Big East, this will be the last time these two teams face each other as Big East competitors.
Syracuse beat a No. 20 West Virginia last year, 19-14—the only ranked team the Orange had played—so this will be a game to watch.
Syracuse is looking for its first win in the Big East Conference, while West Virginia is hoping to extend its conference streak to two.
It's always exciting to watch WVU quarterback Geno Smith play. Currently a junior, Smith is one of the Big East's best quarterbacks and is making the most of his WVU years, getting better each season. He has already thrown for 2,159 yards and 16 TDs.
Get this: Syracuse has played in three overtime games this season, losing only one. The Orange are a fighting team, and it’ll be an exciting game to watch if it does go into overtime.
Tune in to watch Geno Smith add to his total number of touchdowns on Friday. Expect WVU's Dustin Garrison to explode with some wild running yards as well.
Texas Tech vs. No. 8 Oklahoma
2 of 5Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC
This is Texas Tech's third straight game against a ranked team, and it will be another hard test for the Red Raiders as they face undefeated Oklahoma.
Texas Tech has a touch schedule, and its last two games against ranked teams were not given easily. The Red Raiders put up a fight, and they will do it again against Oklahoma.
It won’t be an easy task.
The Sooners are in the Top Five in passing yards and in the Top 10 in points against. While the Red Raiders have a strong quarterback with a quick release in Seth Doege, he will have a tough fight against the Sooners defense.
This is a game that fans should watch.
No. 25 Washington vs. No. 8 Stanford
3 of 5Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC
It's always a good game to watch if it's two ranked teams playing against each other; it’s a bonus if it’s two teams from the same conference.
Both of these teams are undefeated in the Pac-12. One will stay unbeaten, and the other’s streak will come to an end.
Both teams' quarterbacks are almost even in their statistics. Washington quarterback Keith Price has thrown 21 touchdowns, and Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck has thrown 18 touchdowns. It’ll be an exciting offensive shootout.
Price, however, could have a hard time against Stanford, whose points against is 5th overall in the nation.
It’ll be interesting to see who has all the luck in this game.
No. 20 Auburn vs. No. 1 LSU
4 of 5Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS
Like I said before, two ranked teams from the same conference always makes for an exciting game.
These two SEC teams have always been at the top of their conference over the years, and it’s always a big one when they meet.
Auburn is looking to break LSU’s winning streak, and its sophomore quarterback is looking at his first college career start. Clint Moseley is going to be entering a dramatic game against a very aggressive defense. Who could ask for a better start?
Moseley is replacing Barrett Trotter, who started in Auburn’s first seven games and only completed eight passes in the last six quarters he’s played.
LSU's defense is prepared. They faced a first-starting quarterback the last two weeks; they are going to know how to rattle Moseley. It will be interesting to see how Moseley reacts under LSU’s pressure.
Tigers versus Tigers. Who is going to come out as the better ones?
No. 6 Wisconsin vs. No. 16 Michigan State
5 of 5Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN
The Michigan State Spartans are looking to defeat another undefeated team: the Wisconsin Badgers.
This is going to be a hard game for the Spartans, who have a struggling offense playing against one of the best defenses in the league. Though, the Badgers should be warned that the Spartans’ defense is better.
It will be a thrilling matchup watching the No. 1 team in the league in points play against one of the best defenses in the nation. Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson will have a hard time trying to pass against the Spartans' No. 1 passing defense.
While the key for Wisconsin is to run; that didn’t fare so well for Michigan's Denard Robinson last week.
The Badgers' offense will struggle to get into the end zone, but once it does, Wisconsin needs to put up a lot of points. The Michigan defense will be a true test for the Wisconsin offense.
It’s another game of an undefeated Big Ten team vs. a one-loss Big Ten team.
Will Wisconsin’s streak end?
Tune in to watch this Saturday. It’ll be a game you don’t want to miss.
