NBA Predictions: The Upcoming NBA Season Looks to Be a Disappointment
The NBA Lockout has already canceled the first two weeks of the season, leaving fans sitting helplessly waiting for the end of this nightmare.
Yet, when I sit back and really think about the season, I wonder exactly why I am upset.
Before, every NBA season had its share of unexpected moments and upsets. However, this has really changed during last season as the balance of power shifted.
LeBron James single-handedly made the Cavaliers irrelevant and the Carmelo Anthony drama placed the Nuggets out of the playoffs and threw the Knicks into the mix on Eastern Contenders.
Then rumors of Chris Paul leaving the Hornets quickly spread and if (when?) that move happens the Hornets are no doubt going to drop significantly.
Next summer, Dwight Howard has the ability to leave the Magic and go to a team with a better surrounding cast, possibly even teaming up with Paul.
However, before we look that far ahead, let’s look at what we have lined up for next year.
The Miami Heat enter the season as the undoubted favorites to win the Championship or at least to win the East.
After that we have the Knicks and the Bulls as the only real threats remaining in the East. The Knicks are still a no defense team and that should not carry them far at all.
The Bulls, on the other hand, are basically the same squad they were last year which still leaves Derrick Rose as the only real playmaker on the roster.
This puts the Heat in the Finals and who are they facing?
Well, in the West the Lakers, Spurs and Mavericks are another year older, which doesn't gain them any meaningful experience.
The Nuggets have lost Kenyon Martin and JR Smith to China and are simply not good enough to be a threat.
The Clippers and Grizzlies are both strong teams, but they are not even close to the undoubted kings of the west, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Thunder should improve greatly this season and Kevin Durant should capture yet another scoring title while the rest of the young team gains more experience.
The lockout will hurt, but the Heat and the Thunder were ready last season and this season they are going to go over the top.
I want the NBA season to begin, I really do, but when I really sit down and think about this year, I don't have the same excitement I have had in the past.
Maybe the lockout is necessary to help make the league more balanced and allow for more competition.
I mean, in all honesty can you picture anyone else in the Finals but the Heat, Bulls and the Thunder?
That's it!
