Texas A&M Football: Winners and Losers from Aggies' Win vs. Baylor
The No. 21 Texas A&M Aggies hosted the No. 20 Baylor Bears on Saturday and took care of business with a dominant offensive game.
The final score of the match was 55-28 in favor of the Aggies. Behind the arm of Tannehill, the offense of the Aggies could not be stopped.
The defense did what they needed to do to stop Heisman hopeful Robert Griffin III and the Bears.
The winners were clearly the Aggies, but there were many contributing players to the victory.
Likewise, the Bears were the clear loser, but came out with some victors in a losing effort.
Winner: Ryan Tannehill
1 of 10The Aggies finally found their deep passing game this week, and quarterback Ryan Tannehill was to thank.
In total, Tannehill threw for 415 yards and six touchdown passes.
Tannehill set his career-high in touchdown passes, four of which went to wide out Ryan Swope.
Tannehill is a winner because he played nearly flawless, only throwing one interception. But his six touchdowns were the statistic that will be remembered.
To add to his dominance of the game, Tannehill rushed for 55 yards as well.
The Aggies finally found their deep passing game, and Tannehill is benefiting from the heaps of talent on the Aggies potent offense.
Winner: Christine Michael
2 of 10The Aggies not only established a passing game with Tannehill, but they involved Christine Michael and the running game.
Michael carried the ball 21 times for 105 yards and a touchdown during the game, which makes him a winner as well.
Michael's touchdown came late in the fourth quarter to solidify the Aggies victory, but rushing for 100 yards while carrying the ball 21 times is a very good game. He averaged a solid five yards per carry.
The rushing game for the Aggies was there all game as they totaled 266 total yards, and Michael accounted for most of them.
Winner: Ryan Swope
3 of 10When Tannehill went off there had to be somebody on the receiving end, and this was wide receiver Ryan Swope.
Swope had a team-high 11 receptions for a whopping 206 yards, averaging 18.7 yards per catch. Clearly, he is a winner.
Oh, and Swope also caught four touchdowns, a career high.
His touchdown catches came from both short and long distances. He scored two from 68 yards, one from eight yards and one from five yards.
Swope's 206 yards and four touchdowns is a dominant game in every fashion.
Winner: Uzoma Nwachukwu
4 of 10The second beneficiary of Tannehill's monster performance was wide receiver Uzoma Nwachukwu.
Nwachukwu only caught four balls, but made each of them count, finishing the game with 94 yards receiving.
Nwachukwu caught a 47-yard bomb from Tannehill in the fourth quarter to add a score to his impressive receiving day.
Nwachukwu also added two rushes for 34 yards, that's 17 a rush, to his stats.
This is a winning day for Nwachukwu because of his large 23.5 yards per catch and touchdown. The dynamic player contributed to both the passing and running game.
Winner: Mike Sherman
5 of 10The obvious winner of the game was Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman.
Sherman's team faced a higher-ranked Bears team and not only won, but crushed the opposing Baylor squad.
When his offense lit the scoreboard up in every quarter of the game, Sherman sat in confidence as he saw his team cruise to victory.
The A&M offense finished with a season-high 681 yards, which can be credited to the coaching of Sherman.
Sherman is turning the team around, winning another game in the Big 12, improving to 2-1 in conference and winning three straight overall.
Sherman is a solid winner.
Winner: Robert Griffin III
6 of 10In a losing effort, Heisman hopeful Robert Griffin III came out a winner.
He could not win the game, which is a big blow to him and his Bears team, but he did all he could offensively to keep his team competitive with the Aggies.
Griffin III threw for a school-record 430 yards in the game, adding three touchdowns as well.
Even though his team lost, Griffin III definitely improved his standing as a Heisman hopeful.
Griffin III started the game out with a strike to Kendall Wright, but could not keep the Baylor team in the game with the potent Aggie offense with Ryan Tannehill at the helm.
Griffin III did everything he possibly could have done to win the game, unfortunately the Aggies were just too powerful.
Winner: Terrance Williams
7 of 10Despite a horrid rushing performance, the Baylor Bears could not be stopped through the air. This mostly goes to the credit of Robert Griffin III, but receiver Terrance Williams had a solid game as well.
Highlighted by a 77-yard touchdown catch to put the Bears ahead in the second quarter, Williams finished the game with 146 yards receiving on eight catches.
He only scored the one touchdown, but averaged a very solid 18.3 yards per catch.
Williams is a winner because he did what he needed to do to put Baylor in a solid position to win. Unfortunately, with the lack of defense and run game, the Bears could not compete with the Aggies.
Loser: Baylor Defense
8 of 10The Baylor defense is, arguably, the biggest loser in the game.
The defense let up a total of 681 yards to the Texas A&M offense, and throughout the game could not find a way to stop Tannehill and the Aggies.
They were crushed early, and could not recover as they were consistently out of place and driven on up and down the field.
The defense was dismal as they were lit up to say the least.
With a total of 55 points allowed, you can say that the Baylor defense lost the game.
Loser: Baylor Rushing Game
9 of 10The Baylor Bears on paper looked like they should have won the game with Robert Griffin playing a Heisman-type game yet again, throwing for 430 yards.
Unfortunately, the team's rushing stats only amounted to 50 of the 480 total yards.
The reason why they could not keep the Aggies defense off balance and score on nearly every drive was because of the lack of production running the ball.
The high man for the team was Terrance Ganaway, who scored a touchdown. He rushed for a mere 34 yards on 16 carries. That is 2.1 yards per carry. Terrible.
When your team's longest rush of the game is 11 yards, you have definitely lost the battle.
Loser: Art Briles
10 of 10Someone has to take the blame for the Bears loss, and this would be head coach Art Briles.
Briles now sees his team falling from prominence this season, and will likely not see his Bears in the Top 25 next week as well.
When you give up 55 points and almost 700 yards, there has to be something wrong, especially if you are ranked.
Briles' Bears notched their second loss of the season, which would not be the worst case scenario, but as it is the second Big 12 loss, the Bears are quickly losing any chance to take the Big 12 this season.
Overall, The Bears loss falls on the shoulders of their head coach Art Briles.
