BCS Rankings Week 8: LSU Should Be Unquestioned No. 1
The first Bowl Championship Series poll will be released this Sunday, and it will be an utter travesty if the LSU Tigers are not ranked first overall.
With all due respect to Landry Jones and the Oklahoma Sooners, Les Miles' crew is clearly the best team in college football.
That defense is just vicious, and their offense is beautifully consistent.
Jarrett Lee is far from spectacular, but he takes care of the ball—and that's really all the Tigers need him to do. Running backs Spencer Ware and Michael Ford have been phenomenal running the ball, rushing for 756 yards and 11 touchdowns thus far.
The key to the Tigers' success has certainly been their defense, though. Led by the emotional Tyrann Mathieu, LSU's defense is absolutely terrifying.
They've taken two of the nation's best offenses (Oregon and West Virginia) and made them look like children.
The Tigers are just too big, too fast, too talented, and too experienced at every defensive position. They've allowed just 12.5 points per game while playing what is perhaps the country's toughest schedule.
LSU has already faced four Top 25 teams this season, and they've annihilated them all.
Oklahoma—and again, they deserve plenty of props—has only beaten two ranked teams this year.
The Sooners are currently atop the USA Today Coaches poll, which is one-third of the BCS poll. If this leads to them being ranked No. 1 in the first edition of this year's BCS, it will be a complete injustice to LSU.
Eventually (hopefully), we will get to see an LSU-Oklahoma championship game to determine who is truly the nation's best team.
Until then, LSU needs to be ranked No. 1. Their schedule and the dominating fashion of their victories is just too impressive.
