College Football: Ranking the Biggest Upsets from Week 7
Week 7 came into day with 12 undefeated teams and there have already been a few teams who have fallen.
The BCS rankings are less than 24 hours away and a few who thought they would crack the top 10 are currently on the outside looking in at a possible BCS at-large bid.
Which domino will fall next, and is it possible that the top five or six teams will remain in place for a few more weeks?
Virginia over Georgia Tech, 24-21
1 of 3Georgia Tech came into the week with an outside chance of cracking the top 10 in the BCS, but everything went wrong in Charlottesville, where the Virginia Cavaliers gave them a taste of their own medicine.
Perry Jones toted the rock 18 times for 149 yards and a touchdown. He even hauled in three passes for 37 yards as the Yellow Jackets' defense had no answer for him.
The rushing total for the Cavs was near-even with the Jackets and their devastating rushing attack of Tevin Washington and Orwin Smith. The Cavs had 273 yards, while the Yellow Jackets finished with 272. Washington led the team with 115 yards rushing and two touchdowns, but nobody else had as much success.
Meanwhile, Washington and the passing game struggled mightily. Throwing two interceptions and netting just 24 yards is not exactly getting the job done.
Many questioned how great this Yellow Jackets team was, and while they may be a tough out at Bobby Dodd Stadium, they looked like an average team on the road today.
How far will they drop, and is their schedule strong enough to even allow them to get back up near the top 10?
Michigan State over Michigan, 28-14
2 of 3The "experts" had the Spartans as slight favorites and it came out just like they predicted.
Obviously most did not foresee Denard Robinson struggling as bad as he did in throwing two interceptions, one which was returned for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Robinson did have to have to leave the game after taking an apparent late hit to the upper body. Devin Gardner came in and moved the ball down the field, but it was too late after trailing by two touchdowns.
The key for the Wolverines was their inability to stop Edwin Baker, who had struggled all season. Baker was due to bust out and he did so in a big way against Michigan, rushing for 167 yards and a touchdown.
This game did not have a ton of yards and though Michigan grabbed a quick 7-0 lead, Robinson and the running game were completely bottled up.
MSU outgained Michigan 213-82 on the ground and if you can limit or shut Shoelace down, you may never lose.
Michigan may drop a bit to the upper teens in the rankings since they have played a tough schedule.
Michigan State gets to host the scorching Wisconsin Badgers in what could be a ESPN College Gameday appearance waiting to happen.
Ohio State over Illinois, 17-7
3 of 3The Buckeyes starting quarterback Braxton Miller completed just one pass out of four attempts! For the entire game.
Ohio State forced the ball down the throats of Illinois 51 times for 211 yards with Daniel "Boom" Herron leading the way. Herron could not be denied totaling 114 yards and reaching paydirt on his 23 carries.
Jordan Hall ran for 56, and Miller ran for an additional 34 yards. Illinois turned it over three times, and that was their main demise, but are the Fighting Illini really a legit top-15 team?
Today, gave us a clear answer, but Illinois can still prove they are worthy when they play the likes of Wisconsin and Michigan.
I am still not sold on the boys from Champagne, but they better put this game past them before it leads to a few losses.
