BCS Rankings 2011: The Best 5 BCS Title Game Matchups
With the initial release of the BCS standings now just over 24 hours away, it is certainly not too soon to speculate about some potential title game match-ups.
The projected top four teams are projected to play each other. LSU and Alabama are slated to play next month and Oklahoma will take on Oklahoma St. later in the season.
That will almost certainly eliminate two of those four teams from National Championship contention. As of right now, though, they all have a chance to play for the title.
Here are the best five potential BCS Title game match ups.
5. Oklahoma St. vs. Boise St.
1 of 5This game may be a little more far-fetched than some of the others on the list, but it is still a possibility with Oklahoma St. and Boise St. expected to be ranked No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, in tomorrow's BCS rankings.
The Broncos have been on a mission to get into a BCS title game for years now, and a showdown with an offense like Oklahoma State's—capable of putting up 70 points on the board—would be quite a game to see.
Kellen Moore and Boise St. average more than 40 points per game and would likely need every bit of it against the No. 1 offense in the country at over 51 points per game in Oklahoma St.
This would be an entertaining shootout and an excellent National Championship to see for college football fans.
4. Wisconsin vs. Alabama
2 of 5Alabama is likely a win over LSU away from playing for the national title.
Wisconsin will need a little more help than that and will probably be ranked No. 6 tomorrow.
Besides Oklahoma St., the Badgers have the best offense in the country. They have scored over 47 points in five of their six games and average over 48 per contest.
Alabama has far and away the best defense in the country. They allow only seven points per game and would be by far the best defense Wisconsin will see.
Could Russell Wilson and the balanced attack of Wisconsin put up enough points to knock off Alabama?
What an interesting title game this would be.
3. Wisconsin vs. Oklahoma St.
3 of 5The over/under on this game could be around 100.
These two teams can definitely put some points on the board.
Oklahoma St. tends to do it with the pass. They average 431 passing yards per game and are not afraid to take it to the air on any down and distance.
Wisconsin is a more balanced attack and has possibly the best offensive line in the nation.
These two teams just need to win out and have both SEC teams lose to be playing for all the marbles.
What a thriller it would be.
2. Oklahoma vs. Alabama
4 of 5Oklahoma is considered by many to be the best team in the country, and Alabama is right there with them.
The Sooners are in the top 12 in the country in points per game and points allowed.
The Crimson Tide would have their hands full against an offense that not only averages 45 points per game, but also puts up 55 on a solid Texas squad.
Good thing Alabama has the best defense college football has seen in years.
This game would likely be close throughout, and if it happens, both teams will have earned it with their upcoming schedules.
1. Oklahoma vs. LSU
5 of 5Many consider LSU and Oklahoma to be the best two teams in the country, and it is hard to argue with that.
LSU has endured the most grueling schedule in the nation and has dominated everybody, including the likes of Oregon, West Virginia, Florida and Mississippi St.
Oklahoma is perhaps the most talented all-around team in the country.
These two teams are in the drivers seat to play for the BCS National Championship if they can win their remaining games, and what a battle it would be in New Orleans.
