Week 6 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Shonn Green and Running Backs Primed to Break out

Patrick ClarkeOct 15, 2011

Fantasy owners everywhere are wondering when their backs will shake out of their slump and begin producing numbers like they used to.

The NFL has become more and more pass-oriented in recent years as rookie quarterbacks like Cam Newton and Andy Dalton have even gotten in on the action, performing surprisingly and admirably well.

With poor performances from Tennessee's Chris Johnson and injuries to Arian Foster and Steven Jackson, running back play has been down in 2011.

Here are three fantasy backs ready to carry their team's load in Week 6:

Shonn Green

The New York Jets back has struggled thus far this season, not unlike the entire Jets offense.

Green has just 240 yards and two touchdowns in 2011 on 72 carries, but will have a great opportunity to add to that on Monday night against the Dolphins.

The Dolphins allow more than 107 yards on the ground per contest, and considering the Jets will have been soul-seaching all week long, look for a heavy dose of the run as they attempt to get back to .500 in Week 6.

Mark Ingram

Saints rookie back Mark Ingram has proven a more effective runner than Reggie Bush this season, and will have another shot to prove himself on Sunday against the Bucs.

Tampa Bay is ranked 23rd in the NFL in rush defense, and will have its hands full through the air with Drew Brees under center.

James Starks

James Starks and the Packers are taking on the winless Rams in Week 6, and what a great opportunity for Green Bay to give Aaron Rodgers' arm some rest.

If Ryan Grant ends up in Mike McCarthy's doghouse on Sunday, look to powerful back James Starks to pound away at the St. Louis defense.

If the Packers get a lead, the second half could be a Starks-owner's dream.
