Michael Bisping: Sonnen Should Be Behind Me in Middleweight Title Queue
After Chael Sonnen returned to the UFC last Saturday and successfully defeated Brian Stann, he did what he does best and began to trash talk about Anderson Silva.
Sonnen, who has the privilege of saying he was the closest to beating Silva, stated that the rematch should be booked between the two and then promoted a "Loser Leaves Town Match," WWE style.
If Sonnen would win, Silva would leave the middleweight division, and if Sonnen lost, he would leave the organization for good.
UFC president Dana White stated that it would be "pretty (freaking) stupid" not to book the rematch as soon as possible.
However, Michael "The Count" Bisping feels that Sonnen should be behind him when it comes to challengers for Silva's gold.
Bisping, currently on a three-fight win streak, is set to face off against opposing The Ultimate Fighter coach Jason "Mayhem" Miller in December, and he believes that, with a convincing victory, he will earn a title shot.
Sonnen, according to Bisping, already had his chance and he blew it,
"Far be it from me to question the UFC, that's not what I am doing, but I just have my opinion," Bisping said. "Chael Sonnen had his chance, put on a great performance but lost. Got tapped out, got finished, and then after that he failed a steroids test. As far as I can see he had his chance and he blew it.
"It's me, I'm the contender. [Vitor] Belfort has just been beat, Yushin Okami has just been beat, Sonnen got beat."
As much as the 32-year-old believes that he is next in line, he has a better chance at getting a title shot at the end of next year instead of the beginning. Bisping is a very talented fighter, but he still needs a win over a tough opponent in Miller, as well as another top middleweight before he is to be considered.
If he can extend his win streak to five, it could set up for a title fight in Bisping's backyard in England—something Silva has wanted since February.
