BCS Rankings 2011: Alabama Might Get the Most Love From the First BCS
It's not college football season if there isn't any controversy and this year there has been a lot of it. Of course you have the main arguments about who hasn't played anybody good and who shouldn't be ranked so high. Then you have the debates about who isn't getting enough love and no matter what they do they won't be good enough in the voters eyes.
This season the hottest topic is who deserves to be No.1?
All season the debate has been consistent and has included the same three teams, LSU, Alabama and Oklahoma.
The Sooners have the talent on both sides of the ball to be a National Champion, but out of those three teams they have the weakest resume so far. Sure, they have beaten a Florida State team in Tallahassee, but with every week that goes by that win looks more and more unimpressive.
They also clobbered a Texas team last week but who knows really how good that Longhorns team really is? They have a young quarterback leading the way and they barely beat a BYU team and struggled against UCLA.
Oklahoma is an extremely talented team but if we're talking resumes, they are the weakest link for now.
The LSU Tigers had the most impressive resume in the country beating four ranked teams in six weeks. But now looking back on those ranked teams, it's not helping the case for the Tigers.
Oregon and West Virgina are still a solid bunch despite not beating anybody impressive so far this year. But look at Mississippi State who has lost two other games already this season, and Florida has lost two in a row and may continue to lose as long as John Brantley is out at quarterback.
Then there's Alabama who has beaten three ranked teams this year.
They knocked Penn State out of the Top 25 when they beat them in Happy Valley, but the Nittany Lions have sneaked in the USA Today Coaches Poll just in time to help the Crimson Tides case.
The destroyed the Arkansas Razorbacks who remain in the Top 10 in the AP Poll and No.11 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
And like the Tigers, Alabama also dominated the Florida Gators but they did it in the swamp, while LSU was at home.
You can't really go wrong with any of the three teams at No.1 and all three of them will be in the conversation as the season plays out.
But if we're talking about resumes and what the teams have proven so far, Alabama should get the nod as the most impressive team, so far.
Everybody is going to have a different opinion.
Just wait and in a couple of weeks both Alabama and LSU can prove who the better team is as they square off in Tuscaloosa.
That's the real way to settle this whole BCS mess.
