Nebraska Cornhuskers Football: Jared Crick out for the Year
According to ESPN 1620 radio in Omaha, Neb., Bo Pelini noted that All-American defensive tackle Jared Crick is out for the rest of the season.
According to ESPN 1620, Pelini stated after practice that Crick has a torn pectoral muscle that will take at least six months to heal.
This is a devastating blow to the already struggling Blackshirts defense. People in Nebraska have been asking why their All-American player has been playing so poorly lately. Pelini failed to reveal the nature of Crick’s injury until today.
Now Cornhuskers fans know why Crick has not be as explosive and sacking opposing teams' quarterbacks as he had in the past.
Nebraska is really on freshman Chase Rome and junior Josh Williams to fill in for the injured Crick. Both Rome and Williams have seen playing time in the 2011 season, but neither of these players have the experience or the talent that Crick has.
The injury will provide some playing time for two players who would not have seen the field as much, but it will also put a big hurdle in front of the Nebraska defense that is trying to make their way to Indianapolis for the Big Ten championship game.
Crick was set to be a high draft pick in next year’s NFL draft. The injury will more than likely push him down many teams' draft boards.
At least Nebraska has a bye this week to prepare Rome and Williams for the rest of the season.
What looked like a promising season for the Cornhuskers is quickly turning into one of frustration.
