Fantasy Football Week 6 Rankings: Calvin Johnson and 4 Top WRs

John RozumOct 12, 2011

As the NFL has become more reliant on the passing game, WRs have become increasingly more valuable than RBs and TEs.

If you're fortunate to have a WR who's the ultimate target on his respective team, you're pretty much guaranteed a bunch of points from that player each week.

With that in mind, here are the top 4 WRs for fantasy football in Week 6.

4. Greg Jennings, Packers (vs. Rams)

He's the best receiver among the NFL's best receiving corps. While QB Aaron Rodgers dishes the ball around a fair amount, Greg Jennings gets the biggest piece of the pie.

This week, Green Bay hosts the 0-4 Rams. While St. Louis have the 13th-ranked pass defense, they only rank that high because they have the worst rush defense. No one bothers to throw against them when they can run.

However, that's not the Packers' forte, nor their first choice, so expect Jennings to have another great day en route to a Green Bay romp.

3. Steve Smith, Panthers (at Falcons)

In terms of Carolina's WRs, Steve Smith is Cam Newton's only target. However, thanks to Greg Olsen and Jeremy Shockey, rookie QB Cam Newton has some big men he can also count on.

That said, Smith has caught 27 passes for 609 yards, even though the Panthers are 1-4.

He's also scored three TDs. It's obvious that he is Newton's favorite target.

Against another weak pass defense in Atlanta (rank No. 28), expect Smith to dominate once again.

2. A.J. Green, Bengals (vs. Colts)

A.J. Green is the lone rookie to make the list, but he's a great one.

The Bengals WR leads Cincinnati with 24 receptions, 42 targets, 402 yards, three TDs and 18 first-downs.

He's clearly rookie QB Andy Dalton's favorite target. You can anticipate these two hooking up throughout this season and throughout their potential illustrious careers.

Against a broken-down Colts defense that is giving everything they've got, Green will go over 100 yards again and achieve his first multi-TD game.

1. Calvin Johnson, Lions (vs. 49ers)

Is there any doubt who's going to be No. 1?

If it's not Megatron, then Jerry Rice must have gone back to his prime. Otherwise, Calvin Johnson is pro football's most dominant WR.

Speaking of Rice, the 49ers visit the Lions this week. The only problem for San Francisco is that their pass defense ranks No. 23.

Therefore, even if Johnson is double-covered, Detroit has no reason to run the ball. He's just going to out-jump the defender(s) anyway.

Let's put it this way—if Johnson doesn't gain over 125 yards and score twice this week, it was an underachievement. Frankly, he's just that good.
