Betting Line: Stanford -21

Note: Line according to 5Dimes.com

It's rare to see a team with that big of a spread and a winning record, but when you look at how dominant Stanford has been and how soft Washington State's schedule has been, it's understandable.

Take Stanford minus the points in this one. They have made a habit of blowing teams away and have covered the given spread in every single game they've taken part in thus far.

Stanford Injury Report:

Drew Terrell, WR (undisclosed): Questionable
Wayne Lyons, DB (foot): Questionable
Shayne Skov, LB (knee): Out for Season

Washington State Injury Report:

Wade Jacobson, OL (back): Questionable
Adam Coerper, DE (knee): Questionable
Jeff Tuel, QB (collarbone): Questionable
Darryl Monroe, LB (Achilles'): Out for Season

BCS/Top 25 Implications:

Stanford has to run the table to have a shot at a National Championship. With Oklahoma, Alabama, LSU, Boise State and Wisconsin all looking like they have a solid shot at running the table, dropping a game against Washington State would cripple their chances.

If the Cougars moved to 4-2 with a win over Stanford, it wouldn't allow them to break into the Top 25, but it would certainly be a great starting point in their journey to do so.

What They're Saying:

"We played a really good football game. You win that game 95 out of 100 times."

Washington is coming off a tough loss to UCLA. They have no time to lick their wounds, and it's good to see that they recognize that they had last week's game in the bag. They were the better team, and they can certainly take a lot away from last week's loss.

"Guys like that come along so rarely."

Andrew Luck has the world watching.

NFL owners, every scout in the league and the entire nation is buzzing about the guy who is perceived to be the next Peyton Manning. Luck is a phenom, and is better right now than a handful of starting NFL quarterbacks. That's a great weapon for Stanford to have in their arsenal, and not one that will likely be contained by the likes of Washington State.

Stanford Player to Watch: Andrew Luck

No surprise here.

With 14 touchdowns, two interceptions and 1,383 yards thus far, Luck is one of the top Heisman contenders in the nation. If he falters even for a game, Stanford's National Championship hopes and his Heisman could be thrown out the window.

Washington State Player to Watch: Marshall Lobbestael

It's sort of incredible, but Luck isn't the top passer in this game from a statistical standpoint.

Washington State puts up the 13th-most points in the nation, and Marshall Lobbestael is the catalyst behind their success. If they have any chance of topping Stanford, Marshall has to add to his incredible 1,570 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Key Matchup: Washington State's Front Seven vs. Stanford's O-line

If the Cougars sit back and let Luck stay in the pocket, they don't have a chance.

Both teams are going to score points. It's up to Washington's State's front seven to make Luck uncomfortable and make sure they don't let the Heisman hopeful decimate their secondary.

The problem is that Jonathan Martin anchors a line that doesn't let their field general get hit very often. The Cougars don't have a single player with more than two sacks, so they are going to antagonize Luck with pressure by committee.

Key Storyline: Is Stanford a National Championship contender?

Stanford is 5-0, but they haven't played any team worth mentioning. Washington State doesn't exactly give them the signature win they are looking for, but it's another step toward some much-needed legitimacy if they want to take down undefeated heavy-hitters in the polls.

Prediction: Stanford 44, Washington State 20

Both teams should find the end zone, but in the end the Cardinal are going to have far too much firepower for the Cougars to compete with.

Obviously there is going to be speculation that this may be a trap game, as Washington State has a winning record and Stanford has yet to beat a legitimate team. Even so, the Cardinal should feel fairly comfortable with their chances.
