UFC 136 Results: Gray Maynard or Kenny Florian, Who Is the Bigger Choke Artist?
Gray Maynard and Kenny Florian entered UFC 136 with hopes of leaving Houston as the new champions in their respected weight class.
Unfortunately for Maynard and Florian, it didn't happen.
Maynard found himself just one punch away from being declared the new UFC Lightweight champion in just the first round of action.
But he couldn't finish Frankie Edgar.
He went on to be defeated for the first time in his career via technical knockout in the fourth round.
Florian, similar to Maynard, won Round 1 only to lose momentum and eventually be defeated by Featherweight champion, Jose Aldo.
After both fighters fell, fans across the UFC began to wonder, who is the biggest choke artist, Maynard or Florian?
It wasn't the first time these two fighters received a title shot and blew it.
For Maynard, it was his second attempt in becoming the 155-pound champion after his first title fight was declared a Draw against Edgar at UFC 125.
It was the third and, more than likely, last time Florian would receive a title shot as he circled the cage with Aldo only to lose via Unanimous Decision at the end of five rounds.
The loss made Florian 0-3 in title fights and catapulted him into the category of "choke artists".
Also joining Florian in this category is Maynard, who's now 0-2 in championship bouts.
But who's the bigger choke artist?
In reality, not many experts or fans had Florian leaving Houston as the new Featherweight champion.
But, many did expect Frankie Edgar to be dethroned of his Lightweight championship following their third meeting at UFC 136.
It didn't happen, as Maynard couldn't come through when it mattered.
While Florian is a great fighter, he's proved time and time again he's not worthy of being declared a UFC champion in any weight class.
Maynard, on the other hand, has all the skills to not only be a UFC champion, but reign as one for a long time.
Still, he's yet to capitalize on his opportunities.
