Georgia Football: 5 Things We Learned about the Bulldogs Against Tennesee
It was another game Georgia had to win. Not only did the Bulldogs wanted to get an important SEC road win and stay in the SEC East race, the team wanted to get a win for head coach Mark Richt because it would be win No. 100 for him at UGA.
The Bulldogs were able to accomplish that and more with a 20-12 win over the Tennessee Volunteers. With the win, there were a lot of good things to take away from the game, and with the Bulldogs on a four-game winning streak, this team is on a roll.
Here are five things we learned about the Bulldogs in the win.
The Defense Is Getting Better
1 of 5The Bulldogs only allowed the Vols to score one touchdown and 20 rushing yards. The Bulldogs did this against a team that came into the game as one of the most efficient offenses in the SEC.
The defense for UGA is more physical, athletic and disciplined than in recent memory and credit has to go to Todd Grantham for getting the right players for his system.
Even with Alec Ogletree and Cornelius Washington out, the defense has not missed a beat and will only get better as the season rolls on.
Aaron Murray Is on Top of the SEC
2 of 5Aaron Murray did not throw or run for a touchdown and struggled in the first half to get anything going. But when he needed to make plays, he did, and that's what makes him the best in the SEC.
He finished the day 15-of-25 with 227 yards, which is solid, but he was flawless in the second half which led to the Bulldogs to score 14 points which was more than enough for the victory.
Yeah, I don't think he knows the meaning of sophomore slump.
Isaiah Crowell Is Tough
3 of 5We know Isaiah Crowell is fast and has great vision. But after the win against the Vols, it's safe to say Crowell is tough.
He suffered a wrist injury in the first half which led many to believe he was out for the game.
But knowing the team needed him, he toughed it out, ran hard and scored two TDs.
Here's a question, is there any other rookie in the SEC better than Crowell?
Malcolm Mitchell Is Dangerous
4 of 5Malcolm Mitchell had only three receptions, but he finished with 126 yards.
Mitchell blew by the defense all game long, and if it wasn't for the hamstring injury he suffered in the third quarter, he would have put up more yards and possibly scored a touchdown to put the Bulldogs well ahead against the Vols.
Let's all hope the hamstring injury doesn't keep him on the sidelines for too long.
The Bulldogs Need Mark Richt
5 of 5Say what you want, but Richt is the best option for a coach for UGA.
He was aggressive with the fourth-down calls and he, along with his coaching staff, made the right adjustments to help his team pull away from the Vols in the second half.
Richt did not win 100 games on accident. No matter how bad things are, Richt does not back down and stays the course. That's what separates the good coaches from the bad.
