Miami vs. Virginia Tech: 5 Halftime Adjustments the Hurricanes Must Make
What a half so far as the Miami Hurricanes take on the Virginia Tech Hokies. Today, the Canes look to build on last week's win and take down David Wilson and VT.
Here are five halftime adjustments Miami must make if they want to leave Lane Stadium with the win.
1. Pressure Logan Thomas
Miami needs to put heavy pressure on Logan Thomas. Only rushing the front four will give him too much time to pick apart the Hurricanes' secondary. Thomas has been prone to interceptions this year, recording five in the season's first five weeks. If Miami brings more pressure, look for Thomas to force the issue and make a mistake.
2. More Lamar Miller
There is no question that Lamar Miller is the backbone of Miami's offense. In the second half, the Canes must give Miller more touches. The sophomore RB has eclipsed 100 yards in every game this season. The only way Miami can win this game is if Miller gets more involved.
3. Travis Benjamin in Space
Miami needs to get WR Travis Benjamin looks in space. Whether they run end-arounds or screens, the Hurricanes need to get Benjamin the ball with room to create. Benjamin has elite speed and is capable of breaking away from the Hokies D at any moment.
4. Points in the Red Zone
On Miami's first trip to the red zone they failed a field goal fake on forth down. I understand that the Canes wanted to make a big play, but they NEED to put points on the board when in the red zone. If Miami wants to come away with this huge conference road victory, they need to take advantage of all their scoring opportunities.
5. Stop the Big Plays
Miami has already been burned for a big 40-yard gain by WR Danny Coale. The Hurricanes cannot afford to get beat over the top for anymore big plays. Their secondary must keep VT's deep threats contained and not get punished deeply.
