TNA Wrestling: What I Learned from This Week's Impact Program

David LevinOct 7, 2011

I wasn't sure what to expect on Impact Thursday night, but I am glad I was up long enough to see what turned out to be one of the more entertaining programs in a while on TNA.

There was more excitement and build up to the Bound for Glory PPV on Oct. 16th as well as the revealing of what we all already knew about Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff and the future of the program.

Oh, the tangled web that has been woven on Spike and the ramifications that exist in the "epic" Hogan/Sting affair to be had in Philadelphia. NOT!

Anyway, there are so many twists and turns that occurred Thursday night, but I commend the new creative team for making things happen and keeping us entertained and wanting more.

I learned many things about the future of this brand tonight. Here are some of them.

10. Gunner Needs a Title

1 of 10

Ever since he had the belt taken off of him by Eric Young, Gunner has become the rebel bad ass we all knew he could be.

Gunner needs a title or have another title created and have Gunner win a tournament to claim it. Just do something.

He is immensely talented and could be the heel everyone loves to hate for a number of years, well after Immortal has its run.

9. We Get to See AJ Styles vs. Daniels AGAIN!

2 of 10

Somebody stop me if you have heard this before. AJ Styles and Daniels will battle it out in a PPV event.

This time, with "I quit" rules. This isn't Magnum TA and Tully Blanchard or Terry Funk and Ric Flair, but this one could be just as entertaining.

Play this one out, please, and be done with it.

8. Something Crazy Will Happen in the Diva's Title Match

3 of 10

When I saw Angelina Love trip Winter, I thought the smoke hit the fan. But Winter and Madison Rayne beat Velvet Sky and Mickie James.

I am expecting something odd to happen, which could include a Mickie James heel turn.

It could get interesting.

7. Slowly, Fortune Is Imploding

4 of 10

Since Kurt Angle created the series of matches against Bobby Roode, we have seen more infighting amongst Fortune members.

Pure genius.

Tonight, Kazarian was injured at the hands of Gunner. Last week, Daniels kicked AJ in the onions and now something will happen with Bobby Roode and James Storm.

Not sure what happens, but it was odd to see Angle out there attacking James Storm while he was battling Roode.

6. Kid Kash, Austin Aries and Brian Kendrick Are Carrying the X-Division

5 of 10

And doing a pretty good job of it, too.

Tonight, we saw Kash and Kendrick get into it. Aries and Kendrick always seem to brawl, and the three of them are one of the reasons I tune in each week.

Will Kash have a say in who wins between Aries and Kendrick at the PPV?

5. The Crimson, Samoa Joe, Matt Morgan Triangle Is Interesting

6 of 10

It appears that Matt Morgan and Crimson have some kind of bond or respect for each other. But both have a hatred for Samoa Joe.

What happens?

Joe cannot battle the two alone (well, he probably could). So who gets involved in this one?

It will be interesting to see who would team with Joe to fight the twin towers.

4. Mr. Anderson/Bully Ray Could Be a Very Good Feud for a Very Long Time

7 of 10

It isn't Rock/Austin or Michaels/Hart, but Mr. Anderson and Bully Ray have been going at it back and forth for a few months now and it looks like it will come to a head at Bound for Glory.

All I ask is that it continues a little longer.

Creative pulled the plug on AJ Styles and Bully Ray after a few weeks, which was awful since in it was hot and ready to implode over and over again. You don't get to see that kind of intensity from wrestlers over and over again in today's wrestling.

3. Jeff Hardy Will Be a Major Player Again

8 of 10

Putting his hands on Eric Bischoff did a lot to win back some of the fans' support last night, and although it was taped, it showed how creative wants to use him. IF.

The big question is whether Hardy can stay out of trouble long enough to make an impact on the program? He has alliances he can join and angles that can be written for him and decisions he must make personally.

Hardy may not be with the company for long because of his legal issues, but if he is a part of their future, it will be in a "face" role where he could be in the middle of the title hunt.

2. Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff Are Here to Stay

9 of 10

Not sure how this one plays out, but we heard Hogan tell Sting if he loses, he will give the company back to Sting and Dixie Carter.

Oooooh, Bombshell. NOT!

We all knew this was going to happen, only we thought that people were going to see contrition in his face and sadness in his voice last night. Guess he pulled the wool over us on that one.

And of course, Sting was the one to unmask it.

Bound for Glory will still have the same stipulation, but now it would seem Sting will lose the match, and if by some miracle he wins, what happens next?

1. Bobby Roode Will Win the World Title, but What Happens to James Storm?

10 of 10

This was perplexing. Storm would be great as a singles face or heel. I get the sense there is some jealousy there on Storm's part. Roode looks like a little school boy each time he faces his partners in Fortune.

I am not sure how this plays out, but Storm deserves a title shot.

I thought Kurt Angle was going to aid Storm during the match, but instead he hurt him, enabling Roode to win.

Odd, but not a total surprise, either.

Look for something unconventional to happen at BFG, but Roode will win and the fallen pieces will be picked up in time.
