Tiger Woods Becomes the Newest Rolex World Ambassador

Karla Villegas GamaOct 5, 2011

Tiger Woods has had the toughest time of his 15-year career after losing the top spot of the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).

He also hasn't won since 2009, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

After rumors of infidelity, which he later confirmed, some of his most enviable sponsors left him (Accenture, AT&T, Gatorade, Tag Heuer, General Motors and Gillette).

After nearly two years, Japanese enterprise Kowa announced their partnership with Woods last January. The current OWGR No. 51 appears in a 15-second ad promoting Vantelin Kowa, a heat rub product. The commercial only airs in Japan.

After changing his management agency, he followed long-time agent Mark Steinberg to Excel Sports after quitting IMG, meaning Tiger has finally secured a premium sponsorship.

Rolex announced today, through its website, "this association pays tribute to the exceptional stature of Tiger Woods and the leading role he plays in forging the sport's global appeal."

This is not the first time Rolex has taken Tiger under its wing.

In 1997, the luxurious watch company signed a deal with him, which lasted till 2002, when Woods left and agreed to represent rival enterprise Tag Heuer.

Woods is set to play at the Fry's.com Open this week, a Fall Series event, which marks his first time in such a tournament. The event is also supposed to help him prepare for the Presidents Cup in November.
