Bengals vs. Jaguars: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, Radio, Game Time and More

Wes ODonnellOct 4, 2011

The Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars cannot afford to lose any more conference games if they want to have a viable shot at the playoffs.

The Jaguars, more than the Bengals, are in danger of truly falling off the pace if they lose this week.

Since their opening week win over the Titans, the Jaguars have dropped three straight games and have struggled mightily to score points.

The Bengals, on the other hand, have been surprisingly resilient and competitive in every game so far.

Their losses have come by a combined seven points and they're right in the thick of the AFC North playoff race.

What's At Stake?

Playoff life. If the Jaguars drop to 1-4 there is a good chance they'll miss the postseason. Coach Jack Del Rio has hitched his horse to the Blaine Gabbert wagon, and unfortunately they aren't scoring points.

The Bengals, at 2-2, are only one game out of first place in the division and sit tied with the Browns and Steelers. The AFC North is the only division in football without a losing team.

Every game counts when the standings are this close, and both teams have everything to play.

Bengals' Injury Report

Keith Rivers, LB - PUP List

Jordan Shipley, WR - Out for season

Jaguars' Injury Report

Aaron Kampman, DE - There is a chance the Jaguars' star DE gets on the field this week as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

What They're Saying

The Cincinnati Enquirer talked about the Bengals' No. 1 defense:

"

As the Bengals defense gathered Monday to review tape of their 23-20 win over Buffalo, Mike Zimmer had mousetraps waiting for them in the locker room.

The message from their defensive coordinator? Do not fall for the cheesiness of NFL statistical rankings, especially four weeks into the season.

While coaches discourage looking at team rankings, especially only a quarter into the season, the top ranking marks the first time in 28 years that a Bengals defense has been atop the rankings in total defense. The last time they held the top spot at any time was at the end of the 1983 season.

"

The Florida Times Union writes about the Jaguars' goals for the season:

"

They are 1-3, their worst start since they went 0-4 in coach Jack Del Rio's first season in 2003, and they rank last in the league in points scored and passing yardage. They rank second-worst in first downs and third-worst in total yards and yards per play.

Despite all that, Del Rio still sees the glass as half full. At a time when the perception is that the rest of this season is about grooming rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert for the future, Del Rio still sees the Jaguars hosting a playoff game in January.

"

Bengals Player To Watch: A.J. Green, WR

The rookie receiver's career career started with a one catch — one touchdown day against the Browns. Since that time he's caught 18 balls in the last three games for 271 yards.

Cincinnati drafted him at No. 4 overall because he was a game-changing prospect with elite talent. He's the most targeted receiver on the team and already has six catches over 20 yards.

He's going to be a big player for this team in the future and he's showing it already.

Jaguars Players To Watch: Blaine Gabbert, QB

The Jaguars offense will only go as far as Gabbert can take them. The rookie quarterback's era started earlier than expected, but that is what happens when a team trades up No. 10 to add a quarterback.

His numbers certainly aren't great (he's completing less than 50 percent of his passes) but there is a lot to like about him as well.

The Bengals currently have the league' s No. 1 ranked total defense. Gabbert could be in for a long day if he can't process what he sees in front of him.

Key Matchup: Defensive Coordinators vs. Rookie QBs

With two rookie quarterbacks taking the field, the preparation from defensive coordinators this week is almost as important as the game itself.

Both Andy Dalton and Blaine Gabbert look the part of NFL quarterbacks, but they still have a long way to go.

Mike Zimmer and the No. 1 ranked Bengals D will look to confuse Gabbert on every snap.

Mel Tucker and the Jaguars will want to find a way to get pressure on Dalton as much as possible. In order to do that, they'll have to bring some form of a blitz package. The Jaguars only have six sacks on the season and sorely miss Aaron Kampman in the front seven. If he can get back on the field that will be a big help.

Prediction: Bengals 23, Jaguars 10
