Carlos Tevez: 5 Reasons Manchester City Should Cancel His Contract
The Carlos Tevez saga. What a saga!
One time a hero in blue, now it seems he's nothing but a villain. He was the first major signing for Manchester City who went on to spearhead the team into the UEFA Champions League and into title contention this season.
He was the first of many super stars through the door as he set a marker for his fellow professionals. Manchester City sure had potential if Carlos Tevez was there. He was made the captain of the club and became the second quickest scorer of 50 goals in the club's history.
But now it's all changed. Several mishaps have occurred including family work permit problems, transfer requests and the latest well documented fiasco of apparently refusing to play.
Here are five reasons why Manchester City should cancel Carlos Tevez's contract. I hope you enjoy.
There's a New Kid in Town
1 of 5While Carlos Tevez was once the image of Manchester City and their best player, times have changed.
There's no doubt about it. Carlo Tevez is a world class footballer. But Sergio Aguero in my humble opinion, is better.
Since joining the Premier League giants, Aguero has scored eight league goals, a total bettered only by Wayne Rooney.
Aguero and Tevez are both diminutive, speedy, Argentinian goal scorers. It's almost as if Roberto Mancini bought an upgrade who's four years younger. Sergio Aguero has already established a brilliant understanding with David Silva and Samir Nasri with the front three interchanging well.
Manchester City are playing mercurial football this season, unlike the steady approach they took in the previous two seasons. The recruitment of Sergio Aguero is big reason why.
Disruptive & Tarnished
2 of 5It doesn't matter how much money you have, squad harmony is an important aspect of a club's success rate.
You must make sure you get the right player mentalities into the dressing room to cook a recipe for success. The City squad, as a whole, are professional. It takes a lot for one of your colleagues to publicly state what you did was wrong, which is exactly what happened when Micah Richards spoke to the press.
Richards admitted Tevez was in the wrong and that he should not have done what he did. Tevez's reputation is further tarnished every day and it might be that several clubs, upon his potential release from Manchester City, would say "No" when they would have said "Yes" before.
You get the impression that he won't retire just yet, and if he is released, he will move to a club where he can enjoy where he lives with his family. City will be afraid of losing him to a rival and could keep hold of him for this reason, but there's a good chance he'll find a club in Argentina if he was released.
Waste of Wages
3 of 5Even for Manchester City, there comes a time when your wage bill is too high. We saw a mini clearout this summer as the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz and Vladimir Weiss were shipped out on loan with no futures at the club and a bit of dollar saved in wages.
Carlos Tevez is reportedly earning an astronomical amount of wages, something in excess of £200,000 per week. That's a lot of money to throw down the drain, and it's several hundred thousand pounds a week they could invest in other players or other aspects of the club.
It might seem strange to talk about wage restrictions at a club as rich as City, but after all, they are a business and will always look to trim the fat off the bills.
There Are Replacements out There
4 of 5There are strikers out there who can replace Carlos Tevez despite the afore mentioning of Sergio Aguero.
Lisandro Lopez, Robin van Persie, Edinson Cavani, Giuseppe Rossi, Hulk and Ezequiel Lavezzi are names that spring to mind. They could all be available for purchase (considering Man City's finances) and could slot in and perform well.
My number one choice would be Cavani. Having enjoyed great success with Uruguay over the past year, he's started this season on fire and could score through a letterbox right now as a friend of mine aptly put it.
Losing Carlos Tevez would be a blow but not a crippling one.
Enough Is Enough!
5 of 5Finally, I'd be tempted to say after several years of drama, enough is enough.
The situation has changed. Before, Carlos Tevez was head and shoulders above many in the squad in terms of skill level and work rate. When he complained or acted up, City glossed over it in fear of losing their star man.
Now, the City squad is packed full of stars, some better than him even. As I have stated, I believe losing Tevez would be a major blow. But it would not be as significant as it would have been two years ago.
They have the reputation and the standing to replace him with someone of equal skill level or even better. Manchester City are not reliant on Tevez any more.
