NFL Power Rankings: Baltimore Ravens and 3 Teams That Will Continue To Rise

Ryan RudnanskyOct 3, 2011

There's nothing like getting off to a good start.

Like a nice bowl of oatmeal to start your day, several NFL teams are gaining energy and momentum four weeks into the season.

They continue on this path, they'll have the energy to stay awake while other teams fall asleep and miss out on the postseason.

Here are three sizzling teams that will continue to rise up the NFL power rankings.

Washington Redskins

When Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman declared the Redskins would win the NFC East, most of the country wondered if he ate breakfast at all.

But the Redskins are suddenly 3-1 behind an emerging defense and are putting up just enough points behind Grossman to stay on top of the division.

Head coach Mike Shanahan has this team well-prepared after a disastrous 2010 and he's proving that he's still a threat in the coaching ranks.

Houston Texans

The Texans may have made their mark against struggling teams so far (Colts, Dolphins, Steelers), but there's no question this defense is better with the additions of cornerback Johnathan Joseph, safety Danieal Manning and rookie defensive end J.J. Watt.

This team has always been able to score points, it just needed a defense to keep up. Bingo. It's pretty obvious why the Texans are on the rise right now.

Baltimore Ravens

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has been struggling this season, but this defense will keep the Ravens in any game. In Week 4 against the New York Jets, the Ravens forced four turnovers. Three of the turnovers they returned for touchdowns.

Flacco went 10-of-31 for 163 yards and an interception and the Ravens still won, 34-17. If Flacco can get back to his 2010 form, the Ravens could exact some serious damage throughout the league.
