Clemson vs. Virginia Tech: 5 Halftime Adjustments the Hokies Must Make
What a half so far as the No. 13 Clemson Tigers take on the No. 11 Virginia Tech Hokies. The Hokies look to continue their season’s hot start by defeating the Tigers at home in Lane Stadium.
Here are 5 halftime adjustments the Hokies must make if they want to leave today’s game with an important win.
1. Turnovers
The Hokies MUST take care of the ball in the second half. RB David Wilson is the backbone of the offense and they cannot afford any more costly turnovers from their star player.
2. Set the Pace With Wilson
RB David Wilson has had some early successes running between the tackles. The Hokies need to keep setting the offensive tone with a constant dose of Wilson in the second half. If the Hokies can keep having success on downhill runs, there should be more single coverage for QB Logan Thomas to look for.
3. Get Logan Thomas into Rhythm
Va. Tech QB Logan Thomas needs to step up for the remainder of the game. The Hokies should start the second half by building Thomas’ confidence with short completions and QB runs. Thomas must get into a solid rhythm in the second half if the Hokies' offense wants to put points on the board.
4. Red Zone
Virginia Tech needs to step up in the red zone. The Hokies got a key turnover late in the second quarter but were unable to punch the ball in from inside the 5. Va. Tech NEEDS to capitalize on easy score opportunities if they want to come away with the win.
5. Keep Confusing Clemson's O-Line
The Hokies defense should continue to mix up their rush and blitz patterns to keep the Tigers' O-Line on their heels. They need to start putting Boyd on the ground and wear down Clemson’s pass protection.
