Texas A&M vs. Arkansas Razorbacks: 5 Halftime Adjustments for the Aggies
The Aggies defense came into this game fighting mad and looking to avenge their second half collapse against a bruised and beaten Arkansas team fresh off a good-old-fashion whoopin' at the hands of Alabama. The Aggies have dominated play for most of the first half but key big plays from the Hogs’ talented WR corps have kept Arkansas in it. Here’s what the Aggies need to do to close this one out:
Jam Jarius Wright at the Line of Scrimmage
The Aggies can’t cover Jarius Wright, simple as that. It is pretty clear that whenever Tyler Wilson gets in trouble he is looking for No. 4. Wright already has over 200 yards and a touchdown in the first half. The worst thing about it is how wide open Wright has been on every play. If the Aggies can keep Wright from getting off the line of scrimmage they will be able to limit his big play capabilities.
Heart
Following last week's debacle in College Station, Oklahoma State players and coaches were quoted as saying the Aggies defense was out of shape and got tired in that fateful second half. The only thing that can make up for bad conditioning is heart. The Aggies will need to keep their hearts and minds focused in the second half. Clear eyes, full hearts…
Keep feeding Christine Michael
Christine Michael and the Aggies’ offensive line have dominated the line of scrimmage in the first half. Mike Sherman can shorten this game if he keeps calling running plays. The Aggies don’t need to worry about Michael getting tired, Cyrus Gray will be on the sidelines itching to get a shot at the Hogs soft front seven.
Short Memory
The Aggies are going to need to keep the memories of last week's collapse at bay in the second half. Arkansas' offense has shown they have the ability to score a lot of points very quickly. It will take the Aggies complete focus to keep them out of the end zone.
Keep the Crowd in it
It looks like Arkansas fans don’t like road trips. Cowboys stadium was supposed to be a neutral site for this game, but it doesn’t look or sound like many Hogs fans made the five-hour drive from Fayetteville. Jerry’s house has been rockin' with Maroon and White clad fans for most of the first half. If the Aggies can keep the fans in it they just might be able to break the Hogs’ spirit.
