Fantasy Football Week 4 Rankings: Baltimore Ravens and Top 4 Defenses

John RozumSep 30, 2011

Sure it's a cliche, but defense wins championships, even in fantasy football.

And, although it's not easy getting a bunch of points from your defense every week, having one of the more consistent defenses in your league can give you a big advantage.

That said, here are the Top Four defenses for Week 4.

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (vs Indianapolis Colts)

Last week the Tampa Bay Bucs held the Atlanta Falcons to 13 points, and I think we can all agree that the Falcons have a more prolific offense than Indianapolis.

The more dominating factor however, is that the game is in Tampa, and the Bucs' always play much better at home.

As long as they don't get off to a slow start like their prone to, the Colts shouldn't match up. It's not a given, though, because like we saw against Pittsburgh, Indy is capable.

Nonetheless, Tampa Bay will take advantage of all the Colts' injuries and keep their offensive production to a minimum.

The Bucs don't win by a large margin, but the defense is in control the whole game.

3. Cleveland Browns (vs Tennessee Titans)

For starters, the Browns are gradually gaining confidence on both sides of the ball, and this week we see them come together even more.

Yes, the Titans still have RB Chris Johnson, who is due for a big game since holding out all of training camp, but with WR Kenny Britt out, Cleveland will be focused on isolating Johnson as much as possible.

In addition, CB Joe Haden will lock down any Tennessee WR, thus leaving a minimum of seven guys to fully focus on CJ.

Not to mention the offense has RB Peyton Hillis, which will keep the Titans' offense off the field as Cleveland controls the clock.

Tennessee falls behind early and must revert to throwing the ball, which by the way is Cleveland's strength on defense.

2. Baltimore Ravens (vs New York Jets)

After a dismal Week 2 performance, the Baltimore Ravens got back to normal with a smashing of the St. Louis Rams in Week 3.

This week Baltimore welcomes the New York Jets, who only scored nine points against them last season.

The biggest difference, however, is that Ravens' safety Ed Reed was out, whereas this time he is not.

You can anticipate Reed being around the ball all day, and since the Jets struggle to run the ball anyway, their only shot at moving the rock is via the pass.

And being one-dimensional is not good against Baltimore, just ask Pittsburgh in Week 1.

In addition, the Ravens' offense will rack up some points as the Jets' D isn't as good as advertised.

The Ravens will force the Jets' offense to throw and Ed Reed get to rob balls all day like a center-fielder robbing home-runs in the MLB.

1. Green Bay Packers (vs Denver Broncos)

Through the season's first two weeks the Green Bay Packers' defense was arguably one of the worst in pro football.

However, they turned everything around in Week 3 and dominated NFC North rival Chicago at Solder Field.

In Week 4, the Packers play host to the 1-2 Denver Broncos who, although they have an improved defense, is in dire straits with their offense.

And the problem is not at QB, it's the simple fact that they can't run the ball to help setup the pass.

Denver is a one-dimensional offense that Green Bay will feed off of, and after the first couple of series the Broncos won't be doing anything except pass, because Green Bay's offense will have already scored 21 points.

Combine that with Green Bay's pass defense (their strength), and Denver will be lucky to score 14 points.
