College Football: Reviewing Week 5 in the Big 12
The fourth week of the college football season is complete, and we saw the Missouri Tigers and Oklahoma Sooners battle it out to what ended up being a 38-28 win by the Sooners. With the win, they kept their spot as the No. 1 team in the nation (in the coach’s poll).
The Baylor Bears were 56-31 winners over Rice last Saturday and are now sitting at No. 14 in the nation. They will face Kansas State this week, which should be a game they can win to remain a top team in the Big 12.
The Kansas State Wildcats defeated the Miami Hurricanes 28-24 last week. The game was close and no one thought the Wildcats would be able to beat the Hurricanes, but they did and now they are undefeated heading into the game against Baylor.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys defeated the Texas A&M Aggies on 30-29 Saturday, keeping their perfect record intact. This will allow them to keep pace with the Sooners atop the Big 12. The Cowboys are off this week but will face Kansas on October 8.
Texas Tech beat Nevada 35-34 in another close game for the Big 12 last weekend. The Red Raiders will Kansas this Saturday in a game they should be able to win. The Jayhawks were off last week but were embarrassed September 17 by Georgia Tech in a 66-24 contest.
The ranked Big 12 teams this week include (for the AP Top 25) Oklahoma at No. 2, Oklahoma State at No. 5, Texas A&M at No. 14, Baylor at No. 15 and Texas at No. 17.
The Big 12 Players of Week include Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden on offense, Kansas State linebacker Tre Walker and Texas Tech’s Ben McRoy on special teams.
Weeden passed for 438 yards on 47 completions for two touchdowns against Texas A&M.
Walker had eight tackles against the Hurricanes and helped keep Miami out of the end zone with three tackles on three straight plays from their own two-yard line.
Ben McRoy brought back seven kicks for 203 yards against Nevada.
