Florida Football: Gators' Offense Is No Match for Alabama Defense
The Florida Gators have been born anew under Will Muschamp. Bright, sunny days are on the horizon, just right after they are done getting beaten by Alabama.
The more that the season goes on, the more that I become captivated by the Gators and Crimson Tide. Florida is a team under a new helm, hoping to find a new identity under Will Muschamp.
They have certainly found an identity. In four games, the Gators have established themselves with stout defense and a prolific running attack. If that seems familiar, it's because Muschamp was a linebackers coach at LSU under Nick Saban.
There is no doubt that Muschamp will always be measured against the giant shadow left by Urban Meyer, but he has etched an early modicum of success that will continue to be built upon in subsequent years.
For Saturday's game, I see no other outcome than the better team getting the result. It comes down to the simple fact that what Florida does well, Alabama does better.
The Tide were questioned on the outset of the season. How could a team with a shaky AJ McCarron at quarterback survive the season? I have been captivated to see what their answer has been.
The have combined defense with a powerful rushing attack to continue to move the ball. Trent Richardson has emerged as the most sought after running back by NFL teams in need of such things.
The Tide have averaged just a paltry eight points scored against through four games. That is including games against Penn State and Arkansas.
The game on Saturday will be a wake up call for a Gators squad that has not yet been put to the test. The Tide are stingy on defense, making every yard a premium.
While both teams are mirror images of one another, you have to give the game that is more powerful and poised on defense.
Seeing what they did to Arkansas, I am buying big on the rest of the season of Alabama.
