NFL Predictions Week 4: Santana Moss and 4 WRs Sure to Be Under-Targeted

John RozumSep 29, 2011

The following WRs are the best their teams have to offer and rightfully so as they've produced the most and have been targeted the most this season.

That being said, all four will have their hands full this week so their QBs need to look elsewhere if they want to move the rock down field.

Here are four WRs surely to be under-targeted in Week 4.

Santana Moss (at St. Louis Rams)

After three games, Redskins' WR Santana Moss has 16 receptions, one TD and 207 yards.

Also, 13 of his 16 receptions have gone for a first down, so you know he's been very reliable for QB Rex Grossman after the sticks.

In St. Louis this week, expect the Rams to double-up on Moss as much as possible, thus forcing Grossman to revert to Jabar Gaffney and Fred Davis.

In other words, if you can blanket Moss, you can really slow down Washington's offense as he's averaged just under 70 yards per game.

St. Louis is also going to do a lot of blitzing to force Grossman into making bad decisions.

By game's end, Moss will be lucky to have caught three passes for 30 yards because closing him out is the key to beating Washington (as an inferior team).

Brandon Marshall (at San Diego Chargers)

You saw how easily the Miami Dolphins moved the ball in Week 1 against the New England Patriots when WR Brandon Marshall dominates.

However, he did less in Week 2 against Houston and last week, Browns' CB Joe Haden limited him to just four catches for 43 yards.

Expect the San Diego Chargers to use the same plan with DBs Quentin Jammer and Eric Weddle.

And although QB Chad Henne has a very strong arm, we saw him get flustered last week when Marshall isn't available.

Needless to say, he threw a pick on Miami's last drive and the pass wasn't intended for Marshall.

Covering Marshall is how the Bolts will run the Dolphins off the field, thus allowing their own offense to dominate.

It also doesn't help Marshall that his team is 0-3, the head coach is in the hot-seat and the team's lacking confidence in general.

Roddy White (at Seattle Seahawks)

Last week, Roddy White had nine receptions for 140 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road.

If he gets those numbers this week, the Falcons are going to completely roll the Seattle Seahawks.

However, Seattle does have a solid defense despite the NFL's worst offense.

Therefore, anticipate Seattle coming out in a nickel/dime package to really get White blanketed early on.

He will see jamming at the line of scrimmage, the nickel/dime back dropping underneath his intermediate routes and then a safety monitoring him from cover-two or cover-three.

And when the Seahawks go man, expect a double team every time because leaving White one-on-one is a bad decision.

Now White is going to get some catches and yards, but it's not going to be anything near his average. With that, expect rookie Julio Jones to have a breakout performance.

Dwayne Bowe (vs Minnesota Vikings)

Once RB Jamaal Charles went down, WR Dwayne Bowe immediately became Kansas City's best offensive weapon.

That being said, Bowe's Week 4 opponent in Minnesota needs to put a convoy around him defensively if they want any shot at helping RB Adrian Peterson and the offense get win No. 1.

For one, Peterson is going to have a great game rushing the ball, and that right there will limit some of Bowe's opportunities.

However, securing the win will be needed by a weak pass defense desperately looking for some improvement.

Any man coverage will be double-team, that's a given.

But, watch for disguises in terms of a corner blitz and then a nickel/dime back jumping Bowe as the CB darts to pressure QB Matt Cassel.

In addition, Bowe will constantly see a safety helping over the top, so unless Cassel wants to force the rock, he better defer elsewhere.
