College Football Recruiting 2012: 3 Recruiting Classes Most Likely to Bust
Every February you'll hear each college coach in the country run up the cliche meter with "we signed a strong class" or "we really feel good about the players we signed" and "the star system is overrated, we evaluate these kids and sign players we like".
That's fine an dandy, but the honest coaches and staffs know when they didn't cut it that recruiting cycle. Players can surprise you and be more productive than you hope for, but many programs sign classes that bust.
Here are three that I think unfortunately could.
3. Arizona State
1 of 3I know I have ASU within the top 25 overall classes, I just don't see any impact recruits right now. Sure, they have players committed that will produce, but I'm not sure how much.
T.J. Millweard and Evan Goodman are the headliners so far, and while they are talented, the rest of the class is chalk full of two-star and three-star rated players.
This might be a class getting by on quantity right now.
2. Miami
2 of 3I have Miami inside the top 10, so this is an even bigger shock than having ASU on this list. Look, I love Keith Brown, Duke Johnson, Angelo Jean-Louis and Jelani Hmailton.
However, I just don't think there's a lot more after that right now. Al Golden has three QB prospects committed in Preston Dewey, Gray Crow and David Thompson.
That's three field generals, yet in many various circles, none of them are highly rated or ranked. Golden and his staff will need to pride themselves on teaching and player development to get a max return out of this class.
1. Oregon State
3 of 3The Beavers' class as a whole lacks pizzaz. I know you can't and shouldn't judge a class right now, but unless you have a psychic I can speak to, this is the only measure we have.
I have seen three-star WR commit Malik Gilmore up close and personal, and I do like him. However, I question the 6'3", 200-pounder's deep speed and separation quickness. Those are two no-no's for a WR.
Outside of OL/DL Isaac Semualo and perhaps Gilmore, there's not much to get fired up about in this class.
