Jon Jones Says Steven Seagal's Advice Was "Very Strange"
It appears Jon Jones wants nothing to do with martial arts guru Steven Seagal.
The light heavyweight champion appeared on the Jim Rome Show earlier this week and revealed his intentions behind rejecting Seagal's advice prior to his bout at UFC 135.
"It was just confusing, really, to bring somebody in that you don't work with at all, and have him trying to give you last-second advice...[it can actually be] more detrimental than helpful....I'm not sure how he got my number," Jones said.
"He was just like, 'Hey listen, I think you're gonna win the fight, and when I predict someone's gonna win I'm never wrong...and there's some things I wanna go over with you.' ...It was all very strange."
Jones would go on later that night to defeat Quinton "Rampage" Jackson to retain the light heavyweight crown.
Jones also mentioned his desire to face former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and is aware Seagal is friends with the Brazilian and has associated himself with Machida and his camp, Team Blackhouse.
Jones said he would not want to put himself into a disadvantage against the elusive Karate practitioner while taking advice from Seagal.
"First off, you never know what people's motives are, especially to chat with a guy who coaches Lyoto Machida," he said.
"Machida is definitely someone I want to fight in my near future, and I just didn't want to share my psychology with him or...anything that would put me at a disadvantage in the future."
Jones is expected to make his next title defense against his rival, Rashad Evans, sometime next year.
