All About Alex Henery’s 57-yard field goal
More on the giant field goal from placekicker Alex Henery:
- It was the first field goal of 50 or more yards by a Husker since Josh Brown hit a 50-yarder against Northwestern in the 2000 Alamo Bowl.
- The kick was a Memorial Stadium record, surpassing the previous record of 55 yards by Chris Drennan in 1989 vs. Northern Illinois, which is also the last field goal of at least 50 yards by a Husker at home.
- Henery also connected on a 35-yard field goal in the second quarter, a 27-yarder in the third quarter and a 37-yarder in the fourth quarter.
- The school-record 57-yard boot broke the previous Nebraska all-time record of 55 yards, which was previously held between three different players.
- It was the second time this season that Henery connected on four field goals in a single game.
QUOTES From Henery:
"HENERY on his doubts about making a 57-yard field goal:
“I hadn’t been hitting it that far in pregame. We have our distances set, and I didn’t hit one (from that far) in pregame, so it was weighing the yardage and whatnot.”
Henrey on his 57-yard field goal to give Nebraska the lead:
“It took forever, first off, because of the TV timeout. It seemed like a year. Going up there, all I remember is hitting the ball. I don’t remember much after that. T.J. (O’Leary) had a great snap, Jake (Wesch) had a great hold. They get a lot of the credit too. I don’t remember watching it go through at all. I was pretty sure I made it. I hit the ball really well.”
Nebraksa WR Todd Peterson on Henery’s field goal:
“I’ve been saying it all year, Alex Henery is my favorite player on this team. He’s consistent. We were there at fourth and 25, (Coach) asked Henery if he could hit it and (Alex) said ‘I’ve been hitting it pretty good today Coach.’ Coach Pelini got a kick out of that. That is big-time to hit that, on Senior Day, for all of us.”
