Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 4: Why You Must Add WR Johnny Knox
Prior to the start of the season, many were left scratching their heads when the Chicago Bears signed wide receiver Roy Williams when the team had an emerging starter already on their roster in Johnny Knox.
Many claimed he was inconsistent, pointing to the seven balls he was thrown in 2010 that were intercepted, without considering that those were all poor throws tossed by constantly-pressured Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.
In 2010, he was the Bears' biggest receiving target, having 100 balls thrown his way and averaging 18.8 yards per game. He scored five touchdowns and had 960 receiving yards.

Yet he entered the 2011 season as second-fiddle to Williams. It was as if the Bears had no knowledge of Williams' time in Dallas and his astounding number of dropped passes.
Now it appears the Bears are coming around. Knox filled in for Williams while he dealt with injury issues, but both started in Week 3. Knox led the team in targets yet again with nine, while Williams didn't catch any of the four thrown his way, dropping one pass with two others intercepted.
It's almost a foregone conclusion that Knox will be the Bears' starting wideout from Week 4 on and his 84 yards against the Green Bay Packers in Week 3 will likely give way to 100-plus yardage performances and touchdowns as the season goes on.
The Bears don't produce a lot of excitement when it comes to the passing game, which is likely why Knox is still available in 41 percent of Yahoo! leagues. If you're in a league where Knox is still on the waiver wire and you have immediate need at wide receiver, Knox is a great addition who can start immediately, not unlike Mohamed Massaquoi (who I recommended yesterday).
Knox has even more upside than Massaquoi. He will likely be the only legitimate deep threat for the Bears this year, he averages 21 yards per catch and he's extremely productive in the kick and punt return game (should your league award points for return yardage).
While Knox is probably not available to you if you're league is 14 or 16 teams deep, there's a good chance he's sitting on waivers in 10-team leagues, just waiting for you to pick him up.
