NFL Week 4: 5 Teams That Are Being over-Evaluated at the Moment
It always starts to ache me around this point in the season when I turn on ESPN and the same handful of teams are the only ones that the anchors care to discuss.
Last time I checked, the NFL had 32 teams, all of whom have their own problems and issues to deal with.
Here are five teams that are being over-discussed, over-evaluated, and/or over-critiqued.
5. Houston Texans
1 of 6No one really wants to accept in their head that the Houston Texans are legitimate contenders to win their division and make a playoff run.
I know it's tough to let the youngest child go, but "if you love somebody, set them free."
For the first time in their brief history, the Texans are a well-rounded team, and they now finally have a defense to match their explosive offense.
Losing to the very worthy New Orleans Saints does not expose a flaw in their defense, just supports the fact that Drew Brees and the Saints are very good. The general public needs to stop trying to look for a flaw in the Houston Texans.
4. Indianapolis Colts
2 of 6They are absolutely pitiful without Peyton Manning. Need we say more?
The Indianapolis Colts look like they will be a four-win team this season. Peyton Manning isn't playing. What's there to discuss? We don't talk about the Seattle Seahawks this much...
The Colts aren't much more interesting.
3. Detroit Lions
3 of 6Here's another case of people not wanting to put the past in the past. Yes, the Detroit Lions have been terrible for quite some time and yes, they did go 0-16 just three years ago, but those days are done.
When you look at the Lions lineup there is no reason why they should be anything other than very good. They have the best wide receiver in the league in Calvin Johnson, a red-hot young quarterback in Matthew Stafford, and a dual-threat running back in Jahvid Best. They also have a great defensive end in Ndamukong Suh and a potential star in defensive tackle Nick Fairley.
Personally, I'm not that shocked that the Lions are winning. I would be shocked if they weren't.
2. Dallas Cowboys
4 of 6They are America's team, so everyone loves to talk about them, but my problem is that everyone is always looking for, well, a problem.
Dallas as a team looks pretty good right now. The defense is playing better than they played at all last season and Tony Romo is finally playing good fourth-quarter football.
Despite this, people are still trying to evaluate whether "Tony Romo is the problem in Dallas." What problem? They are 2-1. Romo is a very solid quarterback who is easily one of the league's best. I see no problem right now.
1. Philadelphia Eagles
5 of 6Let me start off by saying that the Philadelphia Eagles didn't build a dream team, everyone just wanted to say that they did.
First off, there is no dream team in football. The sport is too dependent on the chemistry of a team, where as in say baseball or basketball, individual ability can when games.
Secondly, signing the top cornerback prospect, trading your backup quarterback, and signing an average but over-hyped backup doesn't qualify a dream team, even if it did exist.
The great thing about the NFL is that anyone can win. There is a reason that the season only has 16 games and only two teams have ever had undefeated seasons. Perfection is not a term that should be applied to football, so no one should be shocked that injury-prone Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles aren't winning.
Teams That Need More Attention
6 of 6Buffalo Bills: How about the underdogs from Buffalo who ousted the mighty Patriots last week? How about Steve Johnson entering talks about the league's best receivers? I think yes.
San Francisco 49ers: Yes, their division is indeed the least talented in football, yet I think the 49ers deserve more props. Alex Smith is playing the best that he has ever played, and their defense is forcing turnovers like no other.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Anyone else wanna comment on how bad they are?
Happy Week 4, everybody!
