Nfl Mock Draft: Rounds 1-3

Tanner ThomsNov 28, 2008

It's time to add another round to the 2009 NFL Mock draft.

Rounds one, two, and three are in.

The order of selections are based on current standings.

Round 1:

1. Detroit Lions- Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss
Detroit's offensive line needs serious help although they drafted Gosder Cherilus in the first round last year. Detroit is 29th in the league in rushing yards with just over 83 per game.

2. Kansas City Chiefs- Andre Smith, OT, Alabama
Two offensive lineman picked in a row. Kansas City has a solid quarterback in Tyler Thigpen that can progress for next season. Kansas City will have two good tackles in Brandon Albert and Andre Smith.

3. Cincinnati Bengals- Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech
Cincinnati will most likely be without T.J. Houshmandzadeh or Chad Ocho Cinco next season. Michael Crabtree is an explosive target who has 18 touchdown receptions in his sophomore season.

4. St. Louis Rams- Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia
Bye Marc Bulger! Hello Matt Stafford! It's time to start fresh in St. Louis and what better than to start with a great Quarterback with a gun-slinger for an arm.

5. Seattle Seahawks- Jason Smith, OT, Baylor
People constantly say that Seattle needs a receiver. What they fail to realize is that they still have Ben Obamanu and Nate Burleson who went out for the year early. Yes, they are not great receivers but they are improving. Seattle also has Deion Branch getting healthier and a veteran in Bobby Engram. Seattle can improve it's line and running game with this pick.

6. San Francisco 49'ers- Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia
San Francisco's offensive line has already given up 40 sacks this year which is pathetic. Eugene Monroe is a big offensive tackle that will fill a big need and allow Frank Gore to improve even more.

7. Oakland Raiders- Taylor Mays, S, USC
Oakland benched Michael Huff in favor Hiram Eugene–Yeah. Oakland hasn't gone receiver in many years which is why I dont have them taking one year. I mean if you had Chaz Schilens on your squad I wouldn't take a receiver in the first either. That was sarcasm. Oakland will likely release or trade Michael Huff.

8. Houston Texans- Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas
Houston only has nine sacks on the season. Eight of those are from Mario Williams. The Texans need another pass rush that is quick and agile like Brian Orakpo.

9. Cleveland Browns- James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio State
Cleveland's Willie McGinest will retire at the end of the season. The Browns are 27th against the run which is a big reason why they lose games. Laurinaitis is one of the smartest players in all of college football that can make a difference on any defense.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars- Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State
Jacksonville hasn't worked out well for Drayton Florence. The Jaguars need to improve their secondary. Malcolm Jenkins may not start right away but one day he will.

11. San Diego Chargers- Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC
The Chargers don't have many needs to fill despite being 4-7. San Diego is getting older at the linebacker spot in the middle. Rey Maualuga is a hard-hitting linebacker that will team well with Shawne Merriman.

12. Green Bay Packers- Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama
Justin Harrell hasn't been a success for Green Bay since they drafted him. Terrence Cody is a run-stuffer which Green Bay so desperately needs.

13. Philadelphia Eagles- Ciron Black, OT, LSU
Jon Runyan will be hitting the free agency market following this season which leaves a big need on the O-line. Ciron Black may not be selected this early but he's the best offensive tackle available.

14. Buffalo Bills- Michael Johnson, DE, Georgia Tech
Buffalo's defensive line has only 9 sacks on the season. Aaron Schobel is getting older and is hurt often. Michael Johnson is a young and quick defensive end that will boost Buffalo's defense.

15. New Orleans Saints- Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest
New Orleans needs help on defense. Dan Morgan is now retired. Aaron Curry could be an immediate starter for a defense that has Jonathan Vilma.

16. Minnesota Vikings- Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
Recent rumors have had that Tim Tebow is strongly considering entering the 2009 draft. I've had Tebow going to the Vikings for months now and Im not changing it. Tebow is both a running and passing quarterback which the Vikings haven't had since Daunte Culpepper.

17. Denver Broncos- Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida
Denver gives up a lot of yards on the ground every week. Nate Webster is injury-prone. Niko Koutouvides isn't a caliber starter. Jamie Winborn and Wesley Woodyard could be potential starters but for now they aren't. Brandon Spikes is a tough and terrific tackler.

18. Miami Dolphins- Vontae Davis, CB, Illionois
Miami gave up over 400 yards to Matt Cassell this year. Miami's cornerbacks are pretty awful and are mainly rejects from other teams. Vontae Davis is 5"11 and runs a 4.35 forty.

19. Chicago Bears- Greg Hardy, DE, Ole Miss
Chicago's defensive line lacks a true presence. Alex Brown and Adawale Ogunleye only have 10 sacks combined. Greg Hardy is a starter for the future and potentially could take over for Ogunleye.

20. Atlanta Falcons- William Moore, S, Missouri
Lawyer Milloy may retire at the end of the season which is vital to Atlanta's secondary. Atlanta is surprisingly ranked 19th in passing yards allowed but that would go much down if Milloy retires.

21. Detroit Lions from: Dallas Cowboys- Everette Brown, DE, Florida State
Detroit's defensive line is amongst the worst in the league. Dewayne White leads the team with six sacks. Everette Brown has 12.5 sacks in his college season.

22. Washington Redskins- George Selvie, DE/OLB, South Florida
Phillip Daniels career could be over. Jason Taylor has missed several games and is getting older and at best has two more years after this one. George Selvie is a stud who can play multiple positions.

23. Indianapolis Colts- Sen'Derrick Marks, DT, Auburn
Indianapolis hasn't had a run-stuffing defensive tackle in a long time. Anthony McFarland didn't work out at all. Indianapolis has given up over 100 yards to running backs six different times.

24. New England Patriots- D.J. Moore, CB, Vanderbilt
It's time to forget about Asante Samuel. New England is poor against the pass. Deltha O'Neal is not the solution--trust me. D.J. Moore will fit in great for the Patriots.

25. Baltimore Ravens- Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri
Jeremy Maclin is a talented wide receiver that Baltimore needs. Derrick Mason is going to be 35 come his next birthday. Mark Clayton hasn't been producing like he should. It's time for a weapon that Joe Flacco can depend on.

26. Arizona Cardinals- Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia
Edgerrin James won't likely return for the 2009 season. Tim Hightower has been impressive but he isn't an every down back. Knowshon Moreno will be able to carry the load while Hightower comes in on third down players and goal-line situations.

27. Philadelphia Eagles from: Carolina Panthers- Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State
L.J. Smith drops passes left and right. It's time for Philadelphia to move on from L.J. Brandon Pettigrew is the best tight end in college football which makes him a first round selection.

28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Percy Harvin, WR, Florida
Joey Galloway is wearing down and it's obvious. Ike Hilliard is getting older by the week. Dexter Jackson was Tampa Bay's second round pick last year but he is more of a return specialist. Percy Harvin is quick and has great hands.

29. New York Jets- Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State
Thomas Jones isn't looking too shabby this year but he's on the downhill of his career. Leon Washington is a great player but not a worthy starter. With the way teams of late have ran two solid running backs I don't see why the Jet's can't continue it.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers- Duke Robinson, G, Oklahoma
Pittsburgh's offensive line is awful. If the line doesn't get help "Big" Ben Roethlisberger won't be around for much longer with the way he gets hit. Duke Robinson is a big and tough guard that will help the Steelers interior game.

31. New York Giants- Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
New York suffered two hits to their line this year. The retiring of Michael Strahan. Followed by Osi Umenyiora being knocked out for the year with a knee injury. If New York drafts Tyson Jackson it will allow Mathias Kiwanuka to move back to where he belongs at outside linebacker.

32. Tennessee Titans- Trevard Lindley, CB, Kentucky
Nick Harper is currently 34 years old and on the last year of his deal with the Titans. Tennessee doesn't have many pressing needs but cornerback depth isn't something to wince at.

Round 2:

33. Detroit Lions- Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland
Detroit is in need of another wide receiver since they traded Roy E. Williams.

34. Kansas City Chiefs- Alex Mack, C, California
The center position needs serious improving.

35. Cincinnati Bengals- Brandon Graham, DE, Michigan
Cincinnati has 11 sacks in 11 games.

36. St. Louis Rams- Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest
Tye Hill gives up big pass plays.

37. Seattle Seahawks- Myron Rolle, S Florida State
Seattle is 27th against the pass.

38. San Francisco 49'ers- B.J. Raji, NT, Boston College
San Francisco needs help on the defensive line.

39. Oakland Raiders- Eben Britton, OT, Arizona
Oakland's Offensive line needs serious depth.

40. Houston Texans- Brian Cushing, OLB, USC
A great player falls to a team that needs him most.

41. Cleveland Browns- Darius Butler, CB, Connecticut
Cleveland's pass defense can't seem to get on track.

42. Jacksonville Jaguars- Herman Johnson, G, LSU
The Jags line is hurting for starters. No pun intended.

43. New England Patriots from: San Diego Chargers- Clint Sintim, DE/OLB, Virginia
New England could another outside linebacker with Vrabel and Bruschi getting old.

44. Green Bay Packers- Mark Parson, CB, Ohio
Cornerback depth and a starter for the future.

45. Philadelphia Eagles- Kam Chancellor, S, Virginia Tech
Brian Dawkins is getting older and Quintin Mikell is inconsistent.

46. Buffalo Bills- Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers
A project receiver.

47. New York Giants from: New Orleans Saints- Emanuel Cook, SS, South Carolina
Good depth and a potential starter in 2009.

48. Minnesota Vikings- Chase Coffman, TE, Missouri
An upgrade over Visanthe Shiancoe.

49. Denver Broncos- Patrick Chung, S, Oregon
Denver's safeties are awful and they need an instant upgrade.

50. Miami Dolphins- Juaquin Iglesias, WR, Oklahoma
A starter for 2009.

51. Chicago Bears- Phil Loadholt, OT, Oklahoma
John Tait is 34 years old soon and they need a replacement for when he retires.

52. Atlanta Falcons- Jared Cook, TE, South Carolina
An immediate starter and a weapon for Matt Ryan.

53. Dallas Cowboys- Peria Jerry, DT, Ole Miss
Depth on the line can't hurt.

54. Miami Dolphins from: Washington Redskins- Derek Pegues, FS, Mississippi State
Miami needs a major upgrade in their secondary.

55. Indianapolis Colts- Matt Shaughnessy, DE, Wisconsin
If Dwight Freeney goes elsewhere this pick is needed.

56. New England Patriots- Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State
Nick Kaczur needs to go.

57. Baltimore Ravens- Asher Allen, CB, Georgia
Baltimore needs a number 1 corner for the future.

58. Arizona Cardinals- Sam Young, OT, Notre Dame
They need help on the O-line.

59. Carolina Panthers- Evander Hood, DT, Missouri
Someone to fill in Kris Jenkins shoes.

60. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Graham Harrell, QB, Texas Tech
A steal in the late second.

61. New York Jets- Mike Mickens, CB, Cincinnati
Cornerback depth is much needed.

62. Pittsburgh Steelers- Victor Harris, CB, Virginia Tech
Deshea Townsend is nearing the end of his career.

63. New York Giants- Javon Ringer, RB, Michigan State
Derrick Ward will likely sign elsewhere to be a starter.

64. Tennessee Titans- Dorrell Scott, DT, Clemson
Albert Haynesworth is set to hit the free-agency market after this year.

Round 3:

65. Detroit Lions- DeAngelo Willingham, CB, Tennessee
One of the worst pass defenses.

66. Kansas City Chiefs- Dannell Ellerbe, ILB, Georgia
Kansas City can't be starting Pat Thomas for much longer.

67. Cincinnati Bengals- Jonathan Luigs, C, Arkansas
Need to rebuild the offensive line.

68. St. Louis Rams- Tyrone McKenzie, OLB, South Florida
St. Louis can't stop the run most games.

69. Seattle Seahawks- Keenan Lewis, CB, Oregon State
More secondary help.

70. San Francisco 49'ers- Hunter Cantwell, QB, Louisville
Alex Smith should be done in the bay area.

71. Oakland Raiders- Domonique Johnson, CB, Jackson State
A replacement for DeAngelo Hall who played 8 games.

72. Houston Texans- Michael Hamlin, SS, Clemson
They need even more secondary help.

73. Dallas Cowboys from: Cleveland Browns- Coye Francies, CB, San Jose State
Cornerback depth if Pacman can't stay out of trouble.

74. Jacksonville Jaguars- Darry Beckwith, ILB, LSU
Mike Peterson can't get along with his coaches.

75. San Diego Chargers- Fili Moala, DE/DT, USC
San Diego could use a backup defensive tackle.

76. Green Bay Packers- Connor Barwin, DE, Cincinatti
Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila was cut last month.

77. Philadelphia Eagles- C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson
A small and quick running back that Phili could use.

78. Buffalo Bills- James Casey, TE, Rice
Robert Royal is pretty bad.

79. New Orleans Saints- Rashad Jennings, RB, Liberty
Deuce McAllister is almost 30 and he needs to go.

80. Minnesota Vikings- Jamon Meredith, OT, South Carolina
A potential starter at right tackle.

81. Denver Broncos- Shonn Greene, RB, Iowa
A big and powerful back to replace Michael Pittman if he goes somewhere else.

82. Miami Dolphins- Marcus Freeman, OLB, Ohio State
Depth at outside linebacker.

83. Chicago Bears- Trevor Canfield, G, Cincinnati
Matt Forte is loving the picks so far.

84. Atlanta Falcons- Vince Oghobaase, DT, Duke
26th against the run.

85. Detroit Lions from: Dallas Cowboys- Rhett Bomar, QB, Sam Houston State
Finally, a quarterback to look forward to in Detroit.

86. Washington Redskins- Andy Kemp, G, Wisconsin
The two starting guards are 35 and 33 years old.

87. Indianapolis Colts- Nathan Brown, QB, Central Arkansas
A project behind Peyton Manning who doesn't have too much left.

88. New England Patriots- Derrick Williams, WR, Penn State
Jabar Gaffney is way too inconsistent.

89. Baltimore Ravens- Fenuki Tupou, OT, Oregon
Need to address the line issues.

90. Arizona Cardinals- Antoine Caldwell, C, Alabama
Interior running game could use a big boost.

91. Carolina Panthers- Louis Murphy, WR, Florida
Muhsin Muhammed is old. Dwayne Jarret has been a bust.

92. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Zack Follett, OLB, California
Derrick Brooks is near retirement.

93. New York Jets- Alex Boone, OT, Ohio State
Damien Woody isn't that great. Boone could start day one.

94. Pittsburgh Steelers- Vance Walker, DE/DT, Georgia Tech
Aaron Smith will be 33 a few weeks prior to the draft.

95. New York Giants- Max Unger, C, Oregon
Depth on the line.

96. Tennessee Titans- Brian Robiskie, WR, Ohio State
Finally time for the Titans to draft a receiver that can catch passes.
