Nebraska vs. Wisconsin: Whoever Loses Might as Well Go Home
The game that everybody circled on their calendars when the Big Ten released their schedule is finally here. The Nebraska Cornhuskers against the Wisconsin Badgers.
This game has even more hype leading up to it now, with both teams 4-0 and both in the Top 10 of both polls.
Both teams handled the first four opponents on their schedule pretty easily, and both have high-scoring offenses that average over 40 points a game.
This is the most anticipated Big Ten matchup of the season, and will be the biggest game that involves two Big Ten teams in years.
Although Nebraska is 4-0, they haven't quite lived up to the hype they were given during the preseason. In points allowed, the defense is ranked ninth in the Big Ten and 46th in the country. The Cornhuskers gave up 29 points to Fresno State and 38 to Washington.
Nebraska also has questions at quarterback with Taylor Martinez, who is only completing 50 percent of his passes. He has huge accuracy problems and has thrown two interceptions to his four touchdown passes. He is extremely athletic and a fine runner, but Nebraska can't be too comfortable with him under center.
This will be Nebraska's first conference game since joining the Big Ten, and they will be out to prove they belong.
Wisconsin on the other hand, is just steamrolling over teams, and right now that offense looks unstoppable. Granted, they haven't played anybody either, but when you're ranked 26th in passing yards and 13th in rushing, your offense is clicking.
The Badgers have always been a running team with Montee Ball and James White, but with the addition of Russel Wilson, the offense just got that much better.
Wilson is a dual threat quarterback that has thrown for over 1,000 yards, 11 touchdowns and only one interception. He is also completing 75 percent of his passes. The threat of him running as well adds a whole new dimension to the offense.
The Big 12 has several big matchups between ranked teams this season and of course, so does the SEC. For the watered down Big Ten, this game is as good as it's going to get this season for the conference.
With both of these teams being in the Top 10, they both have National Championship hopes. Whichever team wins will take a giant step towards accomplishing their goals, while the loser can kiss them goodbye.
The loser of the game might as well go home.
