Torrey Smith: Why Baltimore Ravens WR Is a Must-Add for Fantasy Football Week 4

Chris TrapassoMay 31, 2018

Torrey Smith, not Lee Evans, will finish the season as the Baltimore Ravens' primary deep threat.

Not exactly rocket science at this juncture.

Sure, Evans was brought in from Buffalo to be the guy to take the top off the defense for Joe Flacco, but with nagging injuries keeping him on the sideline, Smith has stepped in and performed admirably.

He won't have any more three-touchdown quarters this season, but when he's on the field, he's a very dangerous home run hitter.

Nothing against Evans, but recently he has battled injuries and isn't the type of receiver to willingly go across the middle and take hits from linebackers, so even when he is healthy, Smith brings a more complete package to the passing game.

I see Smith falling into the Devery Henderson mold in terms of fantasy value, although with Henderson we've seen over the years what we'll get from him, with Smith we aren't sure yet.

The Ravens have been dying to incorporate more down-field passing into their offensive attack to showcase Flacco's huge arm, and Smith is the ideal target.

I don't envision huge statistical production from Smith each week, but if you have dealt with injuries to your receiving corp and are in need of that WR No. 3 to solidify the pass-catching unit, this is a guy to take a chance on.

Whenever a team has a legit speedster like Smith, you usually see the offensive game plan shift their way, not solely calling for more go-routes, but more bubble screens to get play-makers the ball in open space.

This could be the case for Smith in the near future.

Playing within an explosive offense like Baltimore's with a great running back, it won't hurt to add Torrey Smith.
