Fantasy Football Week 4 Rankings: Cam Newton and Top 5 QBs

John RozumSep 27, 2011

It's been somewhat of a weird fantasy football season among quarterbacks. Although there's plenty of talent going around, they seem to keep one-upping each other, as opposed to the elite few constantly dominating over the majority.

That being said, Week 4 has great matchups for the following five QBs, so let's get to it.

Here are the Top Five guys under center in Week 4 of fantasy football.

5. Drew Brees (vs. Jacksonville Jaguars)

Although the Jaguars have a Top 10-defense in both rushing and passing, they have yet to face an offense as prolific as Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.

In Weeks 1 and 2, Brees went up against the Packers and the Bears, two teams with solid defenses to say the least.

Not only did Brees dominate, but he threw a combined six TDs and zero picks.

Sure, he tossed two picks (also three TDs) a week later versus Houston, but the Texans are much improved on defense from an all-encompassed perspective.

The Jags may delay Brees' explosion at first, but New Orleans is too good to keep under control.

4. Aaron Rodgers (vs. Denver Broncos)

Whether cynics want to admit it or not, the Denver Broncos have improved defensively, but their rush defense is what has killed them.

In turn, that's only going to make Aaron Rodgers' job that much easier against Denver in the passing game.

Look for the Packers to establish a solid ground attack early on, because that will then force safety Brian Dawkins to line up in the box.

Thus, the deep ball will be vehemently wide-open, because the Broncos' secondary is just not good enough to keep up with the NFL's best QB and receiving core.

3. Cam Newton (vs. Chicago Bears)

It seems that every year the Bears have a rather solid defense, but their pass defense is always the weakest link.

Well, that's only going to allow Panthers' rookie QB Cam Newton to compile close to 300 yards on the day.

The Bears may win the game, but their biggest weakness just happens to be Carolina's biggest strength.

If the Panthers pull off the upset on the road, don't look shocked, as Newton is very capable of shredding this pass defense.

2. Philip Rivers (vs. Miami Dolphins)

Despite improving in Week 3 against Cleveland, the Miami Dolphins still have one of the NFL's worst pass defenses.

This week, San Diego's Philip Rivers gets his chance to take a shot at them, and with as much talent as is on the Bolts' offense, this could be the last straw for Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano.

Not to mention, the game is in San Diego, and after losing a nail-biter on the road to the Browns, Miami isn't going to have much confidence playing across the country.

The Chargers are only going to be more difficult, and Rivers keeps Norv Turner's offense rolling.

1. Tom Brady (vs. Oakland Raiders)

Throwing four picks in one game for Tom Brady was obviously unexpected, and you know that he's eager to get back out there and get his offense back on track.

And although the Oakland Raiders have a solid rush defense, their pass defense ranks No. 28 in the NFL (allowing 289.7 per game).

With Brady averaging over 430 yards per game, you know he'll at least hit 350 and add three more TDs (at least) to his numbers.

The only question, is whether he can come back from throwing so many picks, as that's what kept the Bills in the game. The Raiders are good enough to win, as well, if given that many opportunities.

Brady will roll as usual and be back to normal, but don't be surprised if Oakland wins, as they are proving to be a solid AFC contender this season.
