Six More Under-the-Radar MMA Fights
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
Here is the sequel to Top Six Under-the-Radar MMA Fights!
Enjoy!
6. Jake Shields vs. Yushin Okami
I picked this because of the talk of Shields coming to the UFC.
These men met in April of 2006 at ROTR 9. It was a tournament, and these men we're both top prospects. Okami came in with a record of 14-2, and Shields came in with a record of 13-4-1. This fight was back and forth, with both men landing some good shots.
Shields was doing more damage than Okami, but Okami was no slouch and took Shields down a couple times. This fight went all three rounds, and it sounded like the fans wanted more. This fight was definitely a war, but just like all wars someone has to be declared the winner, and someone must be declared the loser.
(Shields Wins By Majority Decision—Round 3)
(Shields went on to win the tournament, defeating Carlos Condit by unanimous decision)
5. Sean Sherk vs. Karo Parisyan (1 &2)
These men fought twice in the Reality Submission Fighting organization.
The first time they fought was Oct. 10, they fought an 18-minute war. Karo was out-matched, but still managed to hang in there and ride it out. Sherk looked sharp and controlled the whole fight.
(Sherk Wins By Decision—Round 1)
The second fight was in RSF as well, it took place on Jan. 5. This time both men were more aggressive, and it was more of a back and forth fight. Sherk however looked better than before, his cardio training had paid off for sure. Sherk dominated later on in the fight.
(Sherk Wins By TKO: Towel—Round 1)
4. Stephan Bonnar vs. Lyoto Machida
This was Machida's second fight, it took place on September, 13, 2003 at Jungle Fight 1. Stephan Bonnar was 4-0, and looked great in his previous bouts. This fight was a total blood bath, Machida had opened a cut on Bonnar. The fight didn't last much after that, but you saw a different side of Machida, one we need to see in the UFC!
(Lyoto Machida Wins By TKO: Cut—Round 1)
3. Jens Pulver vs. Joe Stevenson
Two promising lightweights, It was Jens Pulver's fourth fight and Joe Stevenson's second. They met at the Bas Rutten Invitational 3 on June, 1, 1999. This match looked like it was going to be a war on paper. Boy was that wrong!
(Jens Pulver Wins By KO: Punch—Round 1)
38 Seconds in Jens Pulver lands that left, and Joe Stevenson falls to the mat. This fight jolted Jens's UFC career, he later fought at UFC 22; only to draw with Alfonso Alcarez.
2. Tyson Griffin vs. Urijah Faber
These two fought on September, 10, 2005 for the GC bantamweight title. Faber was the favorite with a record of eight wins and no loses, he also had won the bantamweight championship at GC 27. Griffin was 2-0 and unknown at the time.
Both men came in ready to fight, they pushed each-other through two full rounds. Faber looked good, but Griffin looked better. When the third round came, Griffin rushed Faber with a barrage of strikes, and the rest was history.
(Tyson Griffin Wins By TKO: Strikes—Round 3)
(Griffin was the only man to beat Faber until WEC 36, Faber lost to Mike Brown.)
1. Anderson Silva vs. Jeremy Horn
This fight was at Gladiator FC: Day 2, on June, 27, 2004. Horn was 63-18-5, while Silva was 11-2. Silva was just starting to establish his dominance of the MMA world, while Horn was already 86 fights deep. Horn boasting wins over Forrest Griffin, Chuck Liddell, Dean Lister, Chael Sonnen, and David Loiseau. Silva was the former shooto middleweight champion, and had and impressive victory the previous fight.
This was a war that tested both men, Silva was the superior striker, but Horn held his own. Although Silva was clearly the superior fighter. This fight does prove that Silva can hold his own in a tough fight, it also shows he can be taken to a decision!
(Anderson Silva Wins By Unanimous Decision—Round 3)
I hope you Enjoyed my second and last installment of this series!
Again, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
