WWE: 7 Reasons Why John Laurinaitis Is the Man Behind the Conspiracy
He's shady. He's sycophantic. He's duplicitous. He's...someone who sounds just like Marty Funkhouser from Curb Your Enthusiasm (and isn't that the real reason we don't trust him?).
Oh, yes—there are a laundry list of reasons why we are extremely suspicious of WWE's Executive Vice President of Talent Relations, John Laurinaitis, and think he's the man behind the vast, elaborate conspiracy that has dominated WWE's flagship show, Monday Night Raw.
Never mind faked moon landings, who was on the grassy knoll, or the whereabouts of Elvis; for wrestling fans, the nefarious, mysterious plot driving the corporate power struggle involving Triple H, CM Punk and several others on WWE Raw is the real conspiracy.
Let's look at just a few reasons we strongly suspect Laurinaitis of being the main man in charge this evil scheme...
His Secret Meetings with Kevin Nash
1 of 7No-one is entirely sure what Nash's motives were for his controversial run-in during the Punk/Cena main event at WWE's Summerslam PPV.
For his part, Nash has stuck steadfastly to the claim he was sent a text from his good friend HHH's phone instructing him to interfere and take out the winner of the match, although HHH disputed this and later revealed he had uncovered footage from the arena of Nash himself sneaking into his office and using Hunter's phone to send the famous text message to himself.
Nash (and everyone else in the world, seemingly) also got involved during Punk/HHH main event at WWE's Night of Champions PPV and, strangely, attacked both competitors before himself getting taken out by a vicious sledgehammer shot, courtesy of his former friend, Triple H.
However, while Nash's actions and his role in the conspiracy are ambiguous, we can be certain of one thing: he is strongly affiliated with John Laurinaitis, who appears to be guiding and aiding the former NWO star.
On Nash's first Raw after his dramatic actions at the PPV, we saw the WWE executive take the disgruntled wrestler aside backstage and politely asked him to step into his private office for a “little talk.” An intrigued Nash obediently followed.
Viewers were not privy to the secret conversation, but the two have been strongly linked in the storylines ever since. They've had more meeting, left arenas together in Laurinaitis' limousine, and it was strongly implied the conniving businessman was behind Nash's involvement at the Night of Champions PPV (he was seen texting from his phone shortly before Nash showed up and tried to take out both guys).
Whatever his motives, Nash is strongly embroiled in the conspiracy and that fact he's he's taking his orders from Laurinaitis strongly fingers the WWE corporate higher-up as the man behind it all.
He Has Been Established as an Enemy of CM Punk
2 of 7Punk and Laurinaitis have had a decidedly frosty relationship in recent months. In his now famous work/shoot promo, on the June 26th Raw ,a petulant Punk dismissed John as another corporate “Yes
Man” who “tells Vince McMahon everything he wants to hear” and was partly to blame for the struggling state of the company. Laurinaitis doesn't exactly have warm, fuzzy feelings for Phil Brooks, either: at the Money in The Bank PPV, under the orders of Vince, Laurinaitis attempted to screw Punk out of the title during his match with John Cena, although his interference backfired badly when Cena refused his help and got distracted long enough for Punk to take advantage and win the title WWE title.
The two have since had unpleasant exchanges on WWE television and it's abundantly clear they strongly dislike each other Hey, Punk almost kicked his head off on one Raw!
Notably, Punk was screwed and lost the title at WWE's Summerslam event after Nash's interference and has arguably suffered more from this conspiracy than anyone else. Considering Laurinaitis' closeness to Nash (see previous slide) and the lingering resentment Laurinaitis seems to feel towards Punk, we highly doubt this is all a coincidence.
He's Actively Working Against HHH
3 of 7Let's not forget: in August it was Laurinaitis who claimed he had gotten a phone call from the “Canadian authorities” and informed HHH that Nash had had a “car accident.” Of course this was later established as a lie simply to get Triple H away from the arena so Nash could interfere in the Raw main event and cost Punk the chance to get a rematch for his title. Laurinaitis had to know the story was total fantasy, but relayed it to HHH because, for the purposes of the grand conspiracy, it was necessary to get HHH away from the building on that particular evening.
As noted, he also got involved in the finish of Hunter's match with CM Punk at Night of Champions. Regardless of the chaotic outside interference, Triple H emerged victorious; but whether or not that was Laurinaitis' true intention remains to be seen.
Despite the WWE executive’s hollow insistence that he has unwavering loyalty and respect for his new boss, nobody truly buys it since the man is clearly up to something. HHH may have picked up on John's duplicity, firmly telling him in a late August edition of Raw: “You many be Vice President of Talent Relations, but you work for me. I am your boss.” A stern warning, indeed, and one Laurinaitis did not appear to take kindly to.
He May Still Be Loyal to Vince McMahon
4 of 7Laurinaitis was introduced on-screen as Vince's toadying, sycophantic sidekick, a man who would do anything for his boss, regardless of how outrageous or unfeasible his demands were. He even got involved during the Money in the Bank main event because Vince ordered him to.
With this in mind, are we really supposed to believe that, following a devastated Vince being relieved of his duties by his son-in-law and ousted on the July 18th Raw, Laurinaitis has completely dropped his loyalty to former boss?
This doesn't seem likely, does it? His suspicious behaviour with HHH on Raw and Smackdown lately serves to reinforce this idea. Indeed, it seems the duplicitous toady is still affiliated with Vince in some manner or other, and they are possibly working towards returning the deposed Vince to power again.
He's a Natural Fit for the Role
5 of 7Ever since his name was first uttered, and degraded, by a rebellious CM Punk during his sensational shoot promo on the June 26th Raw, fans have been trained to hate Laurinaitis with a passion and view him
as a slimy, ass-kissing corporate sleazeball with no redeeming features whatsoever. His actions on Raw and PPV lately, which usually involve some shady shenanigans and sneaky interference in matches, have served to confirm this.
Better still, he has garnered the desired reaction, and fans in the arenas will frequently boo the WWE executive vociferously and everything he does.
In this respect, he is the ideal person to be revealed as the man behind the conspiracy on Raw, as it something that has been set up perfectly. The WWE booking team must realize it, too.
He's at the Centre of This Storyline
6 of 7As this power struggle storyline has unravelled on Raw over the past few months, it is noteworthy that the scheming Laurinaitis has interfered in various main events; stood silently by Vince’s, and later, HHH’s side, when they announce their decisions; got into vicious verbal debates with Punk and Cena; and formed an alliance with Kevin Nash.
Why is he so firmly in the middle of it all? Likely because he’s the one man responsible for everything that is going on.
He's Been Heavily Featured on Television
7 of 7John Laurinaitis was introduced as a character for a reason. Otherwise, he serves no real purpose. Triple H is already serving as the all-powerful authority figure on Raw and Smackdown who books matches and orders talent around.
While Punk and Cena stand opposed to HHH and are frequently critical of his decisions.
Simply put, there’s no reason to have Laurinaitis in an on-screen role if he is not ultimately going to be revealed as the man behind the conspiracy.
