Week 4 Fantasy Football Projections: Tony Romo and 3 Must-Sit QBs

David DanielsJun 7, 2018

“Experts” that believe running backs are the most important position in fantasy football are dead wrong.  Defenses are the key to your team winning the championship.  Not your team defense, but the defense your offensive players match up with each week.

Matchups are everything and if your starting QB has a down week, your odds of winning plummet to practically zero.  Here are three must-sit quarterbacks in Week 4:

3. Colt McCoy

Yeah, you may be tempted to start Colt McCoy because he’s playing the Tennessee Titans, but not so fast.  The Titans defense entered the season being projected to be a revolving door, but they’ve been the polar opposite of that through three weeks.  They boast one of the best pass defenses in the NFL and have surrendered fewer points per game than any other team in the NFL.

McCoy isn’t a legitimate fantasy option unless he’s playing one of the worst defenses in the league.  Tennessee surprisingly doesn’t fit into that category right now.  The Titans have picked off four passes and that number could rise against the young McCoy.

2. Joe Flacco

Torrey Smith may have caught three touchdowns against the St. Louis Rams secondary, but let’s see him do that matched up with Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie.  Smith and Anquan Boldin aren’t talented enough to put up big numbers against the New York Jets’ top-notch cornerback duo.  Joe Flacco can’t win you your game by just throwing to Ed Dickson and Ray Rice.

New York has the sixth best pass defense in the NFL.  The quarterbacks that they have faced have left the game with an average passer rating of 64.1.  The unit’s interception count is five and counting so you shouldn’t count on Flacco putting up solid numbers in Week 4.

In years past, when a player on your fantasy team got matched up with the Detroit Lions they were a must-start; not anymore though.  Detroit has only surrendered 188 yards per game through the air good for fourth in the league.  The Lions have intercepted four passes and sacked the quarterback eight times and leaving them lying on the turf with an abysmal passer rating of 69.1.

One hit from Ndamukong Suh and Tony Romo’s ribs are broken again.  If Romo plays against the Lions, the Dallas Cowboys will be extremely cautious with their franchise quarterback.  Handoffs and quick passes will be the game plan without much more; play action and deep drops put Romo in harms way.
