LSU Football: Will Jordan Jefferson Ever Start at QB for LSU Again?
Fresh off LSU's pounding of West Virginia in Morgantown Saturday night, you have to look back at exactly what current Tigers quarterback Jarrett Lee has accomplished through the first four weeks of the college football season and have to be somewhat amazed.
Then you have to ask yourself if LSU would be sitting here at 4-0 had Jordan Jefferson not gotten himself into trouble during a bar fight, forcing a suspension and, subsequently, Lee's promotion to starter?
Finally, you have to ask yourself if Jordan Jefferson will ever start another game at quarterback for the LSU Tigers.
The answer to that one should be a quick no.
Both Lee and Jefferson are seniors, so time is running out on both, but what Lee has done through the first four weeks of the season is lead the LSU offense to a place they may not be had Jefferson still been under center.
We all know the story of Lou Gerhig and Wally Pipp; well Jefferson is playing the role of Pipp in this story.
Barring injury, Jefferson should be an afterthought in Baton Rouge by now.
LSU is always going to win with defense and the ground game, but Lee has had the knack of hitting some timely throws and moving the LSU offense.
For a team that has a reputation for being score-challenged, LSU has scored 155 points through four games with Lee under center; that's an average of 38.75 points per game. And with their defense, if the Tigers can keep up the pace, there is no beating this them.
Even more impressive is the fact that Lee has defeated three ranked teams in Oregon, Mississippi State and West Virginia—all on the road.
No matter the athletic talent that Jefferson has, LSU head coach Les Miles shouldn't have a decision to make at all here when it comes to his quarterback situation.
Miles needs to stay with the hot hand and the less mistake-prone signal-caller. Right now, that guy is Jarrett Lee.
You can't argue with results, and Lee has done enough to keep the starting job for the rest of the season.
