Mayweather vs. Ortiz: Rematch Is Only Way Money May Will Silence Haters
The only way Floyd Mayweather, Jr. can force his naysayers to pipe down is to step back into the ring with Victor Ortiz and knock him out while Ortiz's hands aren't at his waist.
Mayweather had control over the fight almost throughout its entirety, but the sucker punch that knocked out Oritz makes it impossible to say Mayweather is without a doubt the better fighter.
Ortiz made a mistake. He was putting sportsmanship before winning, something he should have never done with a guy like Money May with him in the ring. Putting his sport and his morals before himself during the fight was admirable, but it made him a sitting duck for Mayweather.
There are still some who defend Mayweather, but it's clear that his heinous actions have irked most of the boxing world, even though technically, he didn't break any rules.
This fight demands a rematch. With Mayweather anxious to prove once again that he is the better fighter and Ortiz looking to seek redemption for the cheap shot, the fight would market itself.
Mayweather would get a huge payday and knocking out Ortiz a second time would prove that his undefeated record isn't tainted whatsoever.
While Ortiz lost, he gained some followers. Mayweather is obviously the villain of boxing, and if Ortiz could overcome all odds and take down Mayweather in a rematch would do wonders for his career.
Since Mayweather vs. Pacquiao is never going to happen, this would give us a chance to see a fight with a great backdrop and put all of the post-fight questions to rest.
Obviously, all of us want to see Larry Merchant 50 years younger swinging on Money May, but a rematch between Mayweather and Ortiz seems far more likely at this point.
If Mayweather wants to silence Merchant and all of the rest of the naysayers, he's got to make good on his offer to give Ortiz a victory.
