Victor Ortiz: Vicious Victor Speaks the Truth After Mayweather's KO

Brandon GalvinSep 22, 2011

Stand up and applaud boxer Victor Ortiz.

Ortiz was stopped by a TMZ reporter and questioned about the controversial epic and controversial bout with Floyd “Money” Mayweather.

He was smiling and laughing with the TMZ reporter and never made an effort to shun him like most celebrities and athletes do, which I appreciated.

You have to give it up for Ortiz for handling it all gracefully. He is clearly in good spirits considering the events that happened, his face always looks good too!

According to most, Ortiz was the victim of a dirty cheap shot from Floyd Mayweather during their match. One could argue Mayweather abided by the nature of the ring, never put your hands down and strike accordingly.

“Money” would probably tell you that Ortiz is the dirty one after receiving a head butt, despite Ortiz apologizing immediately.

Whether or not I agree that Mayweather’s KO was a cheap shot, Ortiz said all of the right things.

Naturally, he would consider Mayweather’s shot unfair because his hands were down. It was commendable that he states he has respect for the referee.

Still, he should know the cardinal rule is to be ready at all times, especially when you’re in the ring with arguably the greatest villain to ever grace the sports world. He should know Mayweather knows no boundaries and would be looking to strike quickly following the head butt.

Ortiz was up front about his relationship with Mayweather. I wouldn’t expect them to talk on a regular basis or talk after the controversial bout.

I didn’t consider myself an Ortiz fan and wasn’t even pulling for him to beat Mayweather. Now, I appreciate and respect the man more than ever. He handled himself with class and I loved his subliminal dig at Mayweather regarding the Larry Merchant incident.

Mayweather bashed and cursed out Merchant following the match, which led Merchant to say that he would beat up “Money” if he was 50 years younger. I loved Ortiz’s joke that Merchant would take him out.

These are the type of videos that garner respect across the sports world. Ortiz comes off as a personable and approachable superstar, which isn’t as common as sports fans would expect.

I respect that Ortiz took the time to state his case. It seems he was waiting for this moment, especially to issue his desire for a rematch. The best part of the video was when he said “I doubt our friend would want it” regarding another match.

Knowing Floyd, Ortiz is probably right. Being the classic villain he is, Mayweather is probably one and done with Ortiz.
