Big 12 Expansion: Should Big 12 Members Really Be Gunning for Beebe's Removal?
When a major college football conference is falling apart, naturally fans are going to blame the man or woman in charge of running the whole thing.
Dan Beebe is the commissioner of the Big 12 and has held the position since 2007. He has had a tumultuous tenure, with a number of schools threatening to secede from the conference he oversees.
With the Big 12 on the verge of collapse, Beebe needs to be removed.
One of the biggest and most prestigious programs in the conference, Oklahoma, is demanding that he steps down if they want to have any hope of keeping the school in the Big 12.
Berry Tramel of NewsOK.com wrote:
"The University of Oklahoma is considering remaining in the Big 12, but only in a “reformed” version of the conference that includes restrictions on Texas' Longhorn Network and removal of Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe, a high-ranking source at a Big 12 school said Tuesday.
"
Oklahoma is upset that Beebe seems to do anything to appease Texas at the expense of other schools. He allowed for a single school to have their own network and all the additional revenue that comes with it.
The program is highly considering a move to the Pac-12 if things don’t change. They are trying to make the conference fair for all programs, which makes perfect sense.
Tramel spoke with someone close to the Oklahoma program:
"The source said OU's goal is not to run the Big 12. He said OU's goal is to not have any school run the conference. And the impression has been that Texas, via Beebe, has run roughshod over the Big 12. The perception is, he answers only to one school,” the source said. “That does not work.”
"
Oklahoma is understandably angry that they, and the rest of the Big 12, are secondary in status and importance to their conference.
Beebe needs to be removed and a fair and neutral party must be installed as commissioner to keep the conference afloat.
