Notre Dame vs. Pitt: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, Radio, Game Time and More
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish roared back with a vengeance in Week 3, but the Pittsburgh Panthers blew a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter to lose their first game of the year.
The Irish, 1-2, cannot afford to lose any more games this season and travel to Pittsburgh to battle with an angry group of Panthers.
Both these teams have little margin for error in Week 4, and a loss would be devastating for both sides.
Pittsburgh has actually won two of the last three contests between these schools and similar to the Irish's relationship with Michigan State, these games usually come down to the wire.
Where: Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
When: Saturday, Sept. 24, 12:00 P.M. EST
Watch: ABC
Live Streaming: Panthers All-Access (Pittsburgh)
Listen: Notre Dame—ISP Sports Network. Pittsburgh—93.7 FM
Spread: Notre Dame -6.5
The Irish are trouble against the spread. They came out a week ago against the Michigan State Spartans and killed it, but in their last 17 games they are only 4-13 against the spread.
Notre Dame might be the better football team, but statistically they are trouble against the spread.
Over/Under: 53.5
The two teams average about 60 points combined this year.
They are also a combined 3-3 for the O/U. That means this bet is a roll of the dice either way.
Key Injuries
Neither team has a significant injury right now.
BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications
Neither team is in the rankings as of now.
The Irish, who started the year at No. 16, still have a long road ahead of them before they can earn the trust of the voters again. The win against Michigan State was big, but they need to run the table up to the USC game if they want to be considered. They are still getting a few votes —eight in the AP and three in the Coaches—but that won't increase until they show consistency.
As for the Panthers, they play in a weak Big East conference and need to get this win to make a push for the top 25.
Keys for Notre Dame to Win
Balance on offense—The Irish must continue to mix things through the air and on the ground. Receiver Michael Floyd is a dominant weapon, and running back Cierre Wood has looked great at times as well.
Floyd has 19 more catches than the next closest receiver, and Wood has 40 more carries than the next closest back.
Coach Brian Kelly must keep Pittsburgh's defense off balance if they are going to return to South Bend with a win.
Limit mistakes—Self-inflicted wounds kill the Irish on a regular basis. They cannot afford to turn the ball over and they cannot give up big plays. Pittsburgh's offense has one key player, Ray Graham, and they cannot lose track of him.
Keys for Pittsburgh to Win
Ray Graham, Ray Graham and more Ray Graham—Pittsburgh's best player on the offensive side of the ball is running back Ray Graham. He has just over 500 all-purpose yards and is the team's second leading receiver in receptions in addition to carrying the load in the backfield.
He's averaging over five yards per carry, has found the endzone six times, and the only way the Panthers can win is if they get him started early and often.
Limit big plays—Michael Floyd is a beast to handle on the outside. He makes uncatchable balls catchable and he makes life miserable for smaller defensive backs. If Pittsburgh can contain him on the outside the Irish will be forced to find another way to win.
Prediction: Notre Dame 28, Pittsburgh 24
