UFC 135 Fight Card: Quinton Jackson Says Jon Jones Has "Motivated" Him to Win
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is ready to beat Jon Jones.
The thought of seeing the former champion rejuvenated and willing to compete has intrigued some fans, but not many. The last time fans witnessed Jackson put on a dominant performance was nearly three years ago against Wanderlei Silva at UFC 92. Since then, his recent performances have been uninspiring, to say the least.
But after receiving the opportunity to face the 24-year-old champion at UFC 135, suddenly "Rampage" was back.
"I want to be victorious over cocky fighters and this guy has really motivated me to train hard," Jackson told MMA Heat reporter Karyn Bryant.
"My opponent is very cocky and the last time I fought a cocky opponent I wasn't victorious and it haunts me."
Jones' recent actions haven't sat well with Jackson over the last few weeks and it has made him determined to put an end to his short reign as UFC light heavyweight champion. Jackson has stated he holds nothing personal against Jones, and in fact credits him for ushering in a new era of fighters into mixed martial arts.
However, Jackson said Jones' arrogance and attitude have offended him.
"Some of the stuff he said to me at the press conference, some of the stuff he said to me was uncalled for. I didn't even know he was that cocky until then," he said.
Jones' flamboyance and cocky attitude has certainly prepared Jackson to come motivated into the bout. Jackson's lack of motivation has always been seen as one of his weaknesses and it has always held him back from his potential.
This weekend will determine whether or not "Rampage" shows up to compete.
