Wright-Phillips Talking Up Man City’s Challenge
And that delusion belief seems to be spreading at Eastlands. First we heard how Robinho plans to become the "best player in the world"—at City, and now we’re hearing Shaun Wright-Phillips’ suggesting City can challenge his former club.
Yep, the former Chelsea winger who almost had to be dragged kicking and screaming away from the club where he’d won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Carling Cup, having only suggested a day or two earlier: "Speculation has been like this since I was at Manchester City. It was going on for seven years before I left.
"Then I came to Chelsea and speculation has been going on for my whole time here and I have still not left.
"I have signed a contract (until summer 2010) and I’m here to see it out", seems pretty optimistic off the back of City’s win against Arsenal.
I know, I know, some of us might not think there’d be much to shout about while they’re still only 11th in the table, but he’s excited bless him. We’ve all heard how they’re planning to splash the cash—and there’s certainly no shortage of that at Eastlands—and the immediate plan is to break into the top four.
With that in mind, Wright-Phillips claims: "Yes (City can challenge Chelsea in the future), most definitely. But it is not just something that is going to happen overnight. In the future it is something that is possible and likely.
"The club, in my eyes, and I think in the fans’ and the owners’—can become a massive club. City can go a long, long way and contend for a lot of silverware."
Time will tell Shauny.
