Floyd Mayweather: 3 Things 'Money' Must Do to Ensure Manny Pacquiao Fight

Eric BowmanJun 7, 2018

Floyd Mayweather Jr. knocked out Victor Ortiz this past weekend, and once again boxing fans are counting down the days until he fights Manny Pacquiao.

The only problem with that is there is no set date, and there may never be one.

Fans have been waiting for about three years now for these two to fight, but it still hasn't happened.

The sport of boxing needs this fight to happen, not only because it would be a fantastic battle, but because it's been the most anticipated fight for a while.

Here are three things Pretty Boy Floyd must do to fight Pacquiao.

Not be Afraid

The longer Mayweather waits to fight Pacquiao, the more people will continue to say he's scared of him.

Mayweather continues to run his mouth and say he's the greatest, and he isn't afraid of Pacquiao, but until the day it's announced they will fight, he'll be viewed as a gifted punk who is petrified of a particular fighter.

Holding a perfect record of 42-0 with 26 knockouts, and a reputation of believing he is the best of the best, you would think he'd welcome any and all challengers. But that isn't the case, as he is terrified of no longer being undefeated.

Compromise on Drug Testing

When the representatives for both fighters agreed to fight in 2010, the reason it was called off was because Mayweather demanded Olympic-style drug testing that Pacquiao didn't want to adhere to, citing that he didn't want blood drawn a month before the fight.

This is a just another excuse for Mayweather to make.

Currently, Bob Arum, Pacquiao's promoter, said the drug-testing holdup shouldn't exist, as their side is willing to fold to the the Olympic blood-testing speculations.

Floyd, suck it up, be a man, and don't put endless roadblocks in the way of a the test that's agreed upon.

Lower the Asking Price

Earlier this year, Arum told reporters that Mayweather was seeking $100 million to fight Pacquiao, according to ESPN.

That asking price is a huge indicator that Mayweather doesn't want to fight Pacquiao. It's a ridiculous amount of money to ask for in a fight, even for a fight fans have been anxious over for years. Most big-time fights go for half of that amount.

No fighter has ever received anywhere close to that much money, which is why Mayweather must come down significantly. The 34-year-old boxer needs to grow up and stop acting like a child.

It's uncertain if this fight will ever happen, which is just sad. If Mayweather does these three things then the fight will happen. However, as selfish as he is, he probably won't do any of this.

Mayweather must also avoid a rematch with Ortiz because of the way the fight ended this last weekend.

He needs to keep looking ahead and give the fans what they truly want, Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.
