WWE Night of Champions Results: 7 Reasons Randy Orton vs. Mark Henry Was Best
On a night where there was so much unpredictability, this one match, Randy Orton taking on Mark Henry, was the one match that in many eyes went according to plan.
Long before the match ever took place, Henry predicted Orton, who has been champion off and on since the beginning of the year, promised he would fulfill his destiny (no, this was not Alberto Del Rio's speech).
Henry won and with it came the questions, the accolades and of course the unknown future associated with the win.
Where does the champion go from here, besides a rematch with Orton? Who knows. But while the ride promises to be surprising and somewhat chaotic (what else from a man who put Big Show and Kane out of action?), it also may surprise some that it will be just what the WWE needs right now.
Here are seven reasons why this match was the best of the night.
7. It Sets Up for a Rematch on Smackdown with Randy Orton
1 of 7Ah, shades of Christian and the crying game?
Not really, but Orton will of course get his rematch. And it probably will be on Smackdown.
Orton has a habit of wanting things his way, so how he gets the rematch remains to be seen.
Look for shady Teddy Long to do something that compromises the match, however.
6. There Was No Interference from Christian
2 of 7I am sure you thought just like I did, that Christian would get involved in this match in some way.
I'm glad it did not happen.
This was a match that could have many deciding factors outside the ring and it never got to that point.
A good match was had between two giants in the company.
5. It Was Set Up Nicely Before the Match
3 of 7Mark Henry gave a great promo before the match, stating how he would fulfill the promise of becoming champion.
When you have PPV events, as you know, the most important thing is to build a match for what it is.
While it was a short feud that may have deserved more time, Henry has been hunting for gold for some time now.
He may not be the best on the mic, but his look and tone are enough to get his point across.
4. Randy Orton Sold It for Henry
4 of 7Christian and Orton went at it for months, selling for each other back and forth. It was old school wrestling and it was entertaining.
Orton did the same thing for Henry.
I get the feeling Orton picks and chooses his spots. This time, it appeared both men were on the same page.
It was refreshing.
3. It Meant That Others Will Get Involved in the Title Picture
5 of 7You know Sheamus and Christian will be there.
You know Kane may come back to have a stake in it.
But what about the others?
What happens to other wrestlers having a chance to wrestle for the title?
We shall see.
2. It Proved Henry Is the Best Heel on Smackdown Right Now
6 of 7He continues to go through opponents.
While Alberto Del Rio is the most hated man on Raw (with the exception of maybe Kevin Nash), Henry is the most hated man on Smackdown.
Wow, look at that. Two real heels.
Gotta love the idea of old-school value being used on both brands.
1. It Was Time for a Change and That Is What Happened
7 of 7Fans get tired of seeing the same person with the title. Henry has staying power, much like JBL did.
And, he is powerful enough that it will take someone to really break him (Batista?).
Orton held the title, fans like him, but it gets old. And yes, the same thing with John Cena.
Henry is new blood and that is a good thing while this company is still transitioning.
