Oklahoma Football: Sooners Will Win BCS Championship in Honor of Austin Box
The No. 1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners will win the BCS National Championship this year in honor of linebacker Austin Box.
Box passed away on May 19, 2011 after apparently overdosing on pain killers, according to USA Today’s staff.
It is always tough to deal with the loss of a teammate, but these are the situations that bring teams together.
It is evident by their play that the Sooners are a united, well-oiled machine and are playing determined football.
These men are playing with heavy hearts, which will continue to fuel their BCS Title aspirations.
The Sooners went into a hostile Florida environment and took the best the Seminoles had to offer. They stood strong the entire game and managed to walk away with a huge victory to stay atop the rankings.
Oklahoma won the contest thanks mostly in part to WR Kenny Stills, who was phenomenal in primetime. After scoring the game-clinching touchdown on a brilliant jump ball, he saluted his fallen teammate.
With Box looking down on his teammates and his teammates looking right back up at him, the Sooners will handle anybody that crosses their path on the way to a National Championship victory.
This Landry Jones-led squad has clearly dedicated this season to the memory of Box and need to win for him.
It was already perceived to be impossible to compete with the talent of Oklahoma, but their emotional support will continue to put them over the top even when their talent is matched on the field.
Oklahoma already had one of the easiest paths to the National Championship. The only two teams that might give the Sooners trouble the rest of the way are Texas A&M and Oklahoma State later this year.
By then, the Sooners may have already built too much momentum for anybody to overcome.
This is the emotional tie that will forever link these Sooners, but it will also propel them to a Championship.
